Under new management. Now a warm friendly place. Food is excellent, staff bend over backwards to create a perfect experience

Friendly pub, with the most polite bar staff I've encountered in a pub for years, but some questionable characters in there yesterday. The place felt a bit tired - the toilets were quite an experience. Food looked nice, ale just okay and limited in choice - but not a surprise as I think everyone else in the pub was on lager

There are no good pubs in Rainford. When I heard this place had finally been taken over, I'd hoped that at last someone would see the real potential this large establishment right in the heart of the village has to be a genuinely good place to go for drinks on a Saturday night, but alas no. My 33 year old wife and I actually stuck our heads in a couple of Saturdays ago and walked straight back out again. There was an awful live band murdering the main lounge and they had an audience of about 5 (looked like their mates giving them some support). It was totally empty! Basically the same sad dive it always has been, how thoroughly disappointing! Needs a total overhaul and a rethink on the target market: there are loads of younger and early 40s pub goers in Rainford with absolutely nowhere to go. Spruce this place up a bit, add some mood lighting and decent background music for atmosphere (no karaoke, no cringy DJ!) and watch the punters come. How hard can it be?
