The Goat Major

About

One of the City Centres Smallest, Friendliest and most Historic Pubs. Located a stones throw from Cardiff Castle. Traditional setting offering tasty Pies and a range of local Cask Ales.

Story

Welcome to The Goat Major...

A traditional pub in the heart of Cardiff city centre.
Our name comes from our close association with the 41st Regiment of Wales and we’re a great old pub that has classic décor, and are famed for our 'pie only' menu.

BEERS: We're known for our wonderfully kept real ales that include, Brains Dark, Brains Bitter, SA (straight from the cask on the back bar), and have a guest ale on at all times. We also have plenty of soft drinks, bottled beers and spirits, including Welsh spirits from the Penderyn distillery.

MENU: We are the only pub in Cardiff to have a "PIE ONLY" menu. They are all freshly cooked on site and are delicious. On the set menu we have - Steak & Ale, Pork & Cider, Chicken, Pea & Bacon, Cheesy Leek, Lamb & Rosemary... and of course The Best British Pie 2010 Award Winning - Wye Valley Pie.. Check out our "SPECIALS" board for other fantastic home-made pies!

A visit to Cardiff really isn’t complete without a pint of beer in one of our leather wing-backed armchairs and a chat with our friendly and professional tattoo clad bar staff. Once you come and see us you will never forget us.
We’re located just opposite Cardiff Castle so you won’t have to search too hard to find us either.

It is such a lovely at atmosphere here. The manager Jade is such a delight and so welcoming. Highly recommend
Came in to watch the football. Staff were fantastic, service great. Thanks to Jade and gang for a fab night.
Lovely old fashioned pub, that just served drinks, no food, no kids!
Nice , small quiet pub in heart of Cardiff ,close to castle , excellent friendly staff , .
Fun little pub in downtown Cardiff. Great beer, good pies, quick service. Nothing to complain about.
The Goat is still one of the best pubs in the city. It's one of the few places to serve a really good pint of Dark - the classic dark-mild from Brains. It's comfortable and not overly noisy. For a good pint & chat with my friends, it's our favourite venue.
Lovely friendly pub, great bar staff and unexpected singing. I'm in a wheelchair at the moment and there are no disabled toilets but the staff checked the men's toilets were clear and stopped any men coming in after me. Brilliant service. Well done
A good place to hide, relax and enjoy an excellent pint of Black. I'm not a fan of music in pubs because it's generally badly chosen ie. by a computer but at least it's at low volume here. Maybe they could look into a Welsh folk music playlist to go with the great beers? I have plenty of suggestions!
Perfect if you would like a drink. Good atmosphere and nice staff
