Excellent food, amazing soufflé.
Wandered in here as a hungry day-tripper on a freezing cold afternoon looking for a late lunch. Not the cheapest place around, so assumed quality would be reasonable. I really don't have anything good to say about this venue, other than the staff were polite enough. Decor was a shabby, only one toilet for males and females, weird ambiance created by a CD of 1970s ballads on repeat play, limited menu made even more limited by half the food not being available, and very poor quality food when it arrived. Despite not being that cheap, this place clearly operates by serving up pre-prepared frozen meals, probably without a single fresh item on the menu. Service was a bit sloppy, and 10% compulsory service charge as they clearly are not confident of getting any tips. I was annoyed with myself for stumbling in here, as there were quite a few other places to eat, had I just carried on walking for a few more minutes. Worst restaurant I have been in for a long time.
Well things started so well. We arrived on a busy Thursday afternoon. We were met and greeted by friendly staff. We were shown to our room and offered a tea or coffee. As we were settling into our room we noticed the floor was soaking wet in the bathroom. I immediately brought to the attention of the staff who made a note but no one came to inspect or view the soaked bathroom. We had a lovely meal in the evening at The Globe again with a friendly service. In the early hours at approx 5.30-6am we were woken by very load noises coming from what we thought were downstairs with doors slamming, chairs dragging and people talking. In the morning we asked what the noise was and was informed it was probably deliveries out the front of the hotel. The breakfast was ok but felt the young waitress needed some additional training to improve the service. The food however was good. I again raised the issue about the soaking wet floor in the bathroom in our room. As we checked out i raised the issue for a third time. At this point a member of staff called just called the owner and said i had an issue and passed the phone to me. It was really at this point that things really deteriorated. The owners comments were "i cant do anything about noise outside the hotel" i accepted this point. When i raised the issue about the bathroom he commented that the toilet was leaking and had been repaired. It obviously was not. He suggested a token discount but when i was not happy with that i was then just told to pay what i think. I challenged that room was not fit for purpose. The floor around the toilet was soaking and we did not know if this was dirty water or not. Not a single member of staff made any attempt to come up to the room and when i suggested i would not pay any more than the 50% i had already paid, i was told to get bags and get out. Such a shame. Everything started so well.
Dropped in for lunch on a winter's day at end of 2015 - imaginative and very well presented dishes - and realistically priced for the high quality of the offering. I can only assume the new team had not yet taken over the place when Dave Big visited! Unhesitatingly recommended. I came back for more the next day!
Anytime I'm in Fowey this is the place I head too. Fantastic local produce all freshly cooked. Never had a bad meal! As well as fantastic food there's a brilliant Gin selection, what more do you need? Keep it up guys. Thank you.
Popped in for lunch yesterday and the food was great. Hubby had a seafood curry followed by cakey trifle and I had fish goujons followed by Eton mess. Everything was fresh and tasty and the service was just lovely. The only shame was that we hadn't visited sooner!
Whenever I come down to Cornwall I make a point of stopping at the Globe. The food is always excellent only bettered by the attentive and very polite staff. A must if you are ever near.
Rubbish! 3 items were off the main menu. Only 3 items left on the dessert menu and one was ice cream and one was the cheese plate and we weren't eating late. Avoid like the plague. Our worst experience in fowey!!!!
When the bistro moved here in 2015 we knew that the great atmosphere, service and food would come too. We go as often as we can! Highly recommended.
had a great meal at the Globe last night, New owners doing a very good job. Great food and very friendly staff.
