Such a wonderful lively cafe! The “everything all at once” is the perfect choice. A plate full of deliciousness! The cafe is 100% plant based! It’s only about 45 min from the airport in Edinburgh! Great place to stop and get brunch after a long flight!
Great venue with rustic features. The service was a bit chaotic! 2 out of 3 starters arrived, they’d run out of starter 3 so we swapped it but that starter arrived after our mains so it was a waste as we didn’t eat most of it. Two burgers came with one chips that were warm, a while later burger 3 arrived, then later still two more chips arrived.. the seitan burger with haggis & cheese was amazing but it was served on a very small plate with no room for moving it around… if we went back I’d make sure the order of food arriving! Also the toilet situation is very odd! There’s clearly been a female toilet with three stalls & sinks, male toilet with stalls & urinals but they’ve taken the signs off the doors & anyone can use any toilet, so it excludes any females that want a single sex female only toilet. I felt very uncomfortable using the toilet & wouldn’t again. They do have a disabled toilet that you can use with lockable doors which I’d recommend using
I like the Glad Cafe. Been in a couple of times over the years for events, but this is the first time for something to eat. Served by a nice fella and has a decent vibe but my one star is about the food and the lack of overt communication about the cafes shtick. Veganism. It’s not the brightest lit place but nowhere on the entrance or any notice boards etc did I see any declaration that this is a vegan cafe. If this is your thing, great! But at least be loud and proud about it. That way you’ll have no confusion and a pissed off omnivore who felt just a wee bit conned. On the way out I looked for signs in case I’d got it badly wrong myself, but the only thing I could see is the menu pinned up behind a glass case at the entrance. On it there is a section for salads next to which a small pale brown circle with feint pink writing declares 100% vegan. Even at this stage it looks like a reference to the salads. Nowhere on the menu is v sign against the food or a bold declaration that it’s a vegan menu and this leaves you feeling you’ve been conned.nnMaybe the Glad Cafe is well known amongst the bright young things of Shawlands as vegan but this won’t be the case for a first time visitor to the food side of things.nnFinally…I really did not enjoy my ‘burger’ it felt slimy and lacked taste which is why I assume it’s slathered on sauce. Won’t be back.
Great wee place for drinks and gigs, the food was nice but took a long time to arrive and when it did arrive it was pretty sparse. We ordered the corn dog which was supposed to come with chips,a pizza and a portion of chips, don't know if they forgot the additional fries or just put them in the one basket but it was a bit sparse for two. What we had was delicious and the ambience was great so I will be back.
Such an amazing place with a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is fully vegan and it's delicious
