Lovely little independant cafe with amazing hot chocolate and fab sausage and egg sandwich. I have ordered from here for years and today I had some time to kill and decided to come in and have a hot drink. The place is so charming, playing 1930-40’s music and just takes you away from your troubles. I hope people continue to support this independent cafe as the staff/owner was lovely the moment I walked in. Lovely to people watch and I feel so relaxed. Definitely worth going to over any major chains!
I still remember coming to this little place when it first opened many moons ago. The people were as lovely as I remember them to be and the food was spot on. The schnitzel was perfectly done and the chips were golden and crispy. The bratwurst roll was also amazing and a perfect afternoon snack. If you’re ever in the area, highly recommend checking out this hidden gem and give our local businesses a bit of extra support.
Really pleased with the service. The hamburger was so delicous and well cooked. The full english breakfast was also delicious and worth trying. A very clean and tidy place worth great customer service. Got to chose plenty of dishes from their varieties with great menus. Vegetarian options: Plenty to chose from and they are worth trying Dietary restrictions: N-a Parking: Free car park for 1 hr Kid-friendliness: Great options Wheelchair accessibility: Great access and easy to go through with a wheel chair
This is a difficult review to write because I wanted it to be more positive than I can make it. I have been curious about the Cafe for some time, so I have visited twice in the last 3 days. I haven't had any of the German specialities so can't comment on them. First I went for a cold drink juice on a warm afternoon and a slice of apple pie with pouring cream. The juice I think was straight from a cheap carton 'from concentrate'. It was cold and refreshing but nothing special. The slice of pie ticked the boxes but again not special. Those two items + a can of Sprite cost over £12. A price which might have been acceptable for very special food and drink but this wasn't special. A quick scan of the menu suggests that this place is on the expensive end of light food and drink. Then I went again today for a light snack and coffee. I ordered a hot sausage and bacon sandwich on granary bread. I actually got a hot sausage and egg sandwich on white bread. The staff were not run off their feet one person inside finishing a snack and nobody else waiting. Why the order was so wrong I don't know. I didn't make a fuss. I also ordered a Cappuccino which tasted like one of those sachet instant Cappuccinos though it did have a good 'head' of froth. I sat outside which is quite nice even though it is on a dual carriageway main road, but seating is shielded a little from the traffic. I wanted the cafe to be better than it was. I wanted the food to be tastier and more imaginative than it was and it would be good if it was a little less expensive. I may go again, perhaps just to try one of their other coffees though there isn't much choice. A really good cafe could have become a regular haunt for me but there are a few other places some independents around here which are more likely.......sadly.
The German Cafe in Shirley provided a delightful experience during my recent visit. As I awaited the outcome of my son's driving test at the neighbouring test centre, I indulged in their full English breakfast, which was nothing short of exceptional. The breakfast was a hearty and satisfying meal, featuring perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, succulent sausages, and a generous serving of baked beans and grilled tomatoes Each component was cooked to perfection, making it a truly comforting meal. The ambience of the cafe was warm and inviting, with friendly staff who made me feel right at home. Their attentiveness and cheerful demeanour added to the positive atmosphere, making my wait a pleasant one. The decor was charming, with a subtle nod to German influences, creating a unique and cosy setting. The highlight of my visit was receiving the wonderful news that my son passed his driving test on his first attempt. The German Cafe provided the perfect backdrop for this memorable moment, and I couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate. I highly recommend this cafe to anyone in the area, whether you're looking for a delicious meal or simply a welcoming spot to relax.
I popped in here on Saturday for some breakfast with my mum as we were getting the bus to Stratford and we were half an hour early. I live in Kings Heath so hadn’t been here before. I LOVE this cafe! Quite possibly my favourite cafe now. The decor has a Scandinavian/Christmassy feel. It was really warm and welcoming and the chairs are really comfy. I had scrambled egg with bacon on rye bread well I think it was rye bread and it was delicious! I also had a cappuccino and that was really good too. Looking forward to going back to try something from the lunchtime menu.
It's clear Andrea and her crew prepare the delicious food and coffee with love! My husband and I love coming for breakfast, and the food is so good I'll endeavour to do lunch here too. Lovely owner, staff, food, and ambience. Great cafe!
Lovely. I live locally and have passed this place hundreds of times. Finally popped in this morning. Had a bacon and sausage sandwich, which was really nice. Served by a very pleasant gentleman, who was also preparing all food for customers in the cafe as well as delivery orders. He seemed to be coping very well. There's a good selection of food on the menu, so I will definitely be back. It's very nice inside, with comfy seats, all very clean, and very calm too. Tony Bennett, Arethra Franklin and Billy Paul being played quietly in the background, just loud enough to enjoy but not loud enough to be a distraction. Genuinely a very nice place.
What a lovely place, with a wonderful owner, great food and very welcoming.Food: 5/5
I booked a table for my boyfriends 60th birthday for 1pm.today. we arrived early and sat out side for half an hour. I would love to thank you for making it so special NOT. we then came in at 1pm expecting our table to be ready. Which it wasn't. You tried to put us in a small corner. It's not our fault you were busy as we had booked. Never will we becoming back to your cafe. Thank you for spoiling which was meant to be a special occasion. We used to love your cafe, but we have been let down
