"A regular in the Good Beer Guide, appealing to all ages. The interior is adorned with an eclectic selection of knick-knacks. Situated to the south of the Kingsmead playing fields, it has been run by the same family since Fuller's bought it. There are always 6 beers available on the hand pumps, including a non-Fuller's guest beer. The garden is a peaceful haven in the summer." The Good Beer Guide 2013

We weren’t locals to this place and were a group of 4 just rocking up on a Friday evening. The food was excellent and the staff were genuinely superb, even when a couple of our group went AWOL meaning their food was cold. They did everything they could to accommodate us, even with a heavily booked restaurant. Definitely recommend this place if you’re in the vicinity; you won’t be disappointed.

1.. the staff are all friendly and welcoming 2..it looks like a proper pub inside with the acquired objects. Covering every inch from a puffer fish to a tin hat. 3..the beer is perfect and haven't had a poor pint yet and I know I never will 4..the Sunday roast is amazing. 5.. the garden is perfect for the summer

Such a lovely pub, staff are always friendly beer is always good and the patrons always talk to each other - it could be one of the adverts for "If Carling did pubs". Come here more often than anywhere else and less often than I'd like which, as there are 4 pubs closer to me says it all really. Come special occasions and the relatives are heading over they normally want to go here rather than mine. Best tip: try the Sunday roast, its a dinner "Like your nan used to make"

I took my wife here for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious and very well priced. The beer is just as good. I’m looking forward to going back!
