We went here for Christmas Dinner this year for a family meal. It was my first time there and it was very welcoming with a nice atmosphere, pretty busy too. The food was really good and I was totally full, the main dish was big! but kept room for chocolate pudding. service was nice and friendly. Thank You
This rural pub comes across as most rural pubs do, but did feel slightly worse in various respects. Claiming to have WiFi and even displaying a password when none of us could even detect the network, let alone connect to it, want appreciated. Even when not very busy, it felt rather understaffed. The food tasted good enough, but the vegetables were odd and the gravy weirdly gloopy. There is a sizeable outdoor area, but the children's slides looked sufficiently dodgy that it's none of the numerous children there at the time were anywhere near them.
Fantastic Father's Day special lunch. Delicious food, served quickly and friendly, welcoming staff who also gave us left over jubilee crowns to keep our young children entertained. We will be back
A traditional local English country pub with good food, hand pulled beers, and food served in little buckets on a piece of wood. Great food and beer. Great fire. Filled with locals. Highly recommended.
Lovely little country pub set in a green valley next to a public footpath. Loads of outdoor seating nicely set out on terracing that faces the afternoon sun. Marlow Brewery beers on tap. The menu looked interesting. Homemade scotch eggs were very nice. Very pleasant and helpful bar staff. Well worth a visit.
Visited on a Friday night as a couple. Wasn't too busy. We ordered olives and then fish and chips each. Considering the price of the food, the service was very poor. Olives were forgotten completely, and we were not checked on at all throughout the meal. Not a fan of the 'optional' 10% service charge being added as default and was surprised to see that even with the issues, it was still added! Had to ask for it to be removed. No apology, either. On a positive, the fish and chips were good.
We came here on a whim today and I can’t stop thinking about it. The staff were lovely and accommodating even though they were super busy and the food was unbelievable. We noticed they had a couple of Indian dishes on the menu, decided to try them out and honestly, it was some of the best Indian I’ve ever eaten. We’ll be back next week and very possibly every week until the cold hand of death touches upon our shoulders and ushers us into the abyss.
Great family run pub. Food is exceptional with an atmosphere to match. Current owners have only been there just over a year so disregard older reviews!
Wonderful food and ambiance. Really enjoyed the twist given to every dish: the spices and herbs used made them for a wonderful and innovative experience. Will be back for more squid!!!
Had our staff Christmas lunch here today, food was amazing, really fresh and tasty & good portions, been to a few local pubs for Christmas lunch but The Gate was by far the best, staff extremely friendly and welcoming, we will be back.
