About

Final home of Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, and his daughter Anna, a pioneer of child psychoanalysis.

Story

The Freud family settled here after fleeing Nazi persecution in Austria in 1938. The centrepiece of the Museum is Freud’s extraordinary study, containing his iconic psychoanalytic couch, countless books and antiquities. The Museum opened in 1986, since when it has developed an international reputation for its collections, research, conferences and contemporary art exhibitions.

Well maintained museum to learn about the life of Freud and see where he spent his last years. The audio tour is well done. The gift shop if packed with a great selection of goods not all Freud. Stop in to shop even if you don’t visit the Museum!
It is a nice feeling to get the impression that you are among things that once surrounded people like Freud. A place where you feel the pressure of history and great people life. Being there, all stories I have ever read about Freud came to my mind. It was like a beautiful movie.
Nostalgic journey back in time- a must visit when in London
Freud’s home and studio. Original design and artifacts kept as is and in perfect condition. Has two floors and an outside patio. You can plan private events there as well. Staff is very cordial and helpful.
It’s my second time going to the museum and I’m happy I’ve been again. It’s a great place to learn about Fraud and Annas life where the museum takes you back into time. If you keep the recipes it’s also valid for a year so you can go back again.
An informative visit to the home of two psych icons after they fled the holocaust. Anna Freud’s work is often overlooked, and it was refreshing to learn more about her life and accomplishments.
Accessible from Finchley road but a steep walk, house very arts and crafts style, lots of antiquities, papers, letters and books, shop excellent, no cafe, staff helpful, guides and audio available well worth a visit
