Great place for students to study (not just university of Essex). Would be good to have a place where you can eat a packed lunch though..

The Forum as a name does not suggest library. If you were new in town and wanted to find the library the only indication is a small high signpost in the High Street saying Forum and no mention that it is in fact the Library. The book shelves are way too close together and there are not enough labels on the ends of book runs to indicate subject matter. There never seems to be anyone around to ask anything but the staff when you find them are generally lovely and are the ones that have been there a long time are the best. There are quite often very annoying " students" mucking about making more noise than is usual which doesnt seem to be dealt with ,and smelly Joe Public , and I mean smelly and I think we know who I mean without having to say the H word who sleep on the sofas. I know it's a public place but is this really encouraged? I have noticed over the years that some really good books that I got out regularly and were in good condition have been sold off or removed which is quite disappointing and I have had to hunt them down and buy my own copied from e Bay. This new library is not my favourite place but I loved the old one and went every week, now I just go every couple of months or so to to browse or order on line to Southchurch Branch.
