Lovely pub, nice and warm and a great steak and ale with stilton pie. It could have been a bit hotter but was warm enough to eat. Great service and friendly staff. Hubby loves the sticky toffee pud. We'll definitely return.
I park at the Fighting Cocks Pub carpark 1-2 times a week. It's very handy indeed and £5 for 24 hours!! Could do with lighting in the car park, particularly towards the back, but I always get a space as I arrive around 7am. Paying is easy. Either on the app or there's a payment machine on site. Much cheaper than parking at the Station and saves you money! It's a 5 min walk to Audley End station. so win win.
Wonderful pub in country setting. Main drawcard was it offered a large gluten free menu. In the end it was a little limited owing to the time of year coming so soon after all the public holidays but the fish and chips was large, tasty and very well cooked; even the peas were well cooked and the chips were excellent. The desserts were great. The staff were friendly and efficient. Very close to Audley End House. Price wise a little rich for a country pub but as many items are available GF we definitely return for the choice and quality.
We went there on Saturday evening and almost all the tables were reserved but one. We were told we can only order the food after 6pm this was 5;45pm. Not everything on the menu was available but I was allowed to order a starter as a main meal. We waited for food about 50 minutes but luckily there was a pool table & kids enjoyed it. Once the food came out it was lovely - we all enjoyed all of it - worth waiting for. There are toilets, it’s child & family friendly. There’s car park. Recommended x
A great little pub with excellent food. We had the chicken, bacon and leek pie special with gravy. It was lovely. The rest of the menu looked great and a good range of dessert. Recommended.
Surprisingly good food, friendly service and a relaxing atmosphere. And regular quick trains from Cambridge too. The specials were particularly tasty tonight - pork croquettes and Cusk fish. The Eton Mess was a nice way to finish the meal.
Fantastic pub with excellent beer choices , staff cannot do enough for you. The food was fantastic and the staff was so informative. In total there were 6 of us and all we all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Cannot recommend highly enough
Friendly pub with a good menu. We both enjoyed our lunches though I have to say the pie was great, better than the fish and chips the batter was not the greatest - very yellow and not as crisp and bubbly as some but the fish was good. Portion size is very generous. Lunch time deals are good. Would def recommend and would go back. Bill was around £35 for two courses and a drink - can't argue. Didn't even need a dinner that night - monster sized sticky toffee pudding! Quite a few people in on lunch time it was valentines though which is great to see.
Do you want an evening meal or a Sunday roast in a traditional English pub or what! If you do,you will do no better than The Fighting Cocks. Good food, good beer and good everything else. I have visited this pub in Essex on eight occasions now, Four Sunday lunches and four evening meals. Great food and good service. Nothing too much trouble for the attentive staff. Not a large place and the first Sunday lunch we booked, we could only get 4.30pm! Very popular and very good. Try the combo for Sunday lunch if you are hungry. For evening, steaks are my choice. Most on the menu is also Gluten free which is a bonus as my wife is a coeliac. A most enjoyable English pub.
First time visit and we were made welcome. We all had the Sunday roast and it was lovely and plenty on the plate. The only reason I did not give five stars was because i asked for my beef to be rare and it was served a little over. The pub is small but nicely presented . Will visit again when we are in the area.
