Story

The Dragon, is a 150 year old pub with character, charm and a warm welcome! Situated in the heart of Willington village, backing on to the Trent and Mersey canal. It has recently been sympathetically extended, renovated and restored with the introduction of a new 70 seater restaurant, courtyard and dedicated bar area to compliment our fabulous beer garden, on the edge of the canal. There is nowhere quite like The Dragon on a sunny afternoon … we are the area’s favourite destination for diners, drinkers, walkers and boaters alike. We serve a superb selection of classic and contemporary dishes throughout the day. Bookings are advised for evenings and weekends but there is plenty of room and plenty of parking with a FREE public car park right next door! There is always plenty to see and do at the dragon including featured dining nights, themed evenings and community events…

What a lovely breakfast. The wife treated me to a champagne breakfast as part of my birthday celebrations. The food was superb, great portions too. The waiting staff were superb and I think it must have been the manager/supervisor who was wonderful and in chatting she found out it was my birthday and decided to do something special for me which you can see in the pictures provided. Fantastic morning, we'll be back for sure.
First-time visitors, and we will be back! We visited for breakfast on a Sunday, and the atmosphere and decoration of the restaurant and bar areas are lovely. Staff were efficient, and there was no delay in food service to say that we didn't book a table. The only thing that caught us off-guard was the discretionary service charge on the receipt that we weren't aware of, but everything was brilliant, so we will return regardless.
My first time visiting The Dragon was for champagne breakfast for my birthday. The food and service was amazing. And what good value for. So much food for the price. I'd certainly do this again for a special occasion or a brunch with friends. Everything was delicious and the little birthday surprise was a lovely touch!Food: 5/5
So, my review is slightly unique, in that I was on a long kayak/camp, down the Trent & Trent Mersey, and when I came to “The Dragon”, I decided I really wanted to treat myself to non mylar bag food, however, with a kayak loaded with gear, having spent 16 days on the water, it wasn’t like I could just go in, so I phoned, explained my situation, and the Lady that answered, was so accommodating, she really was an absolute star, she made it super simple for me to order, super simple to pay, and just really gave me fantastic service, and the food, oh wow, it was delicious, and not just because it wasn’t from a mylar bag, I got what was suggested to me, “Gammon, Egg, and Chips”, as I’d wanted an all day breakfast, but breakfast service stops at 11:30hrs, and it was around 14:00hrs, and as my pictures show, it was presented well, cooked to perfection, and I found the perfect size portion, and I’m 6ft 15.5st, so not small, but the food went down great, with a nice ice cold, Diet cola with icekayaking. All in all, everything about this pub, was welcoming, accommodating, and a pleasure to experience. I fully plan to return when “not” in a kayak, and once again enjoy the great cuisine available. Very happy to of accidentally found this place.
The pub itself is lovely - very spacious and decorated nicely. Food was fantastic my steak was cooked to perfection and despite there being a huge party in close to us we didn’t wait long at all! Breakfast in the morning was delicious and for the price you couldn’t fault anything. We stayed in the adjoining cottages and that was also lovely : we will definitely be back!
Having been asked to go to a surprise birthday breakfast for my daughter in law, I was in impressed with the standard of food supplied. Not the cheapest breakfast you will ever have, but for a special occasion really nice to do. There was a party of 10 and they managed to deliver everything virtually together, so it was a well done to all involved. Parking: Despite being busy at 10am on a Sunday morning, we found it easy to park with enough spaces.
We ate from the Sunday menu which is a great choice and great price at two courses for £23.99 Really high quality food, cooked to perfection. I am veggie but still love a roast with all the trimmings so it is a dream when somewhere offers this, I had the nut roast which came with all the usual Sunday roast trimmings with veggie gravy which is greatly appreciated. My husband had the dragon platter which was all the meats which he highly recommends!£3 surcharge Staff are attentive and really friendly and the atmosphere is lovely with the trees! Will return! :
Absolutely lovely pub. Stopped at Willington for the Weekend on my Narrowboat and visited The Dragon on both the Friday and Saturday nights. Food is absolutely lovely, great menu, and great service. They cater well for Gluten Free too. Can thoroughly recommend. Dietary restrictions: Good options for Gluten intolerant.
Came for a family birthday, all had a burgers which were lovely, food was great quality, service was great also. Desserts followed same excellent standard. Only complaint was that a lot of flies kept coming into pub due to doors and windows open
Lovely place you are make to feel so welcome Breakfast cob so niceFood: 4/5
