My goodness how things change. I used to love buying records from this shop. However, decades later I was ripped off selling records back and Lee even paid me short. When I asked him he said "I never said that darling". I'm disgusted and saddened and in future will trade only with other dealers - never this person again. It's a sad way to end a 30 + year relationship.
I genuinely love this place, although it represents a serious hazard for my bank account. The guys that work here are friendly and knowledgeable, the pricing is fair, and there is *always* something weird and wonderful to find that you never expected to see. My latest happy discovery included two Aphex Twin LPs that I was genuinely elated to find.
I was passing through Birmingham on my way to Tanworth-In-Arden and stopped into The Diskery. I found their selection to be simply incredible. Since I was travelling around the UK I gravitated towards the 45's smaller, easier to cart around. Literally every single box was full of gems. I pulled so many and the prices were so good that I went a little nuts. There were three gentlemen there and when I first walked in and they were having a great time, talking music, playing records, commenting on the musicians and the bands - it made me feel so welcome and the comradery was palpable. While I was digging one of the three gentlemen asked if I wanted coffee or tea!!!! Being from the States and buying and shopping for records and digging for over 25 years I have NEVER been asked that in any shop I have ever been to! It was quite a gesture and I again felt immediately at home. I wish I could remember their names and that makes me feel bad - another thing that NEVER happens here in the States is that they let me use their bathroom!!! All three of them asked to look through what I picked out and they all said "you really know your stuff". I cannot say enough great things about this record shop and it pains me to say that the only reason I may never go back is because I live in the States. That being said if I can ever get back to Birmingham The Diskery is a shop I will need to visit because of all of the above AND I didn't have any time to look in the basement. Well done guys and cheers for the hospitality!!
A great shop that reminded me of the second hand record shops I used to visit in the 90's. The staff were really friendly. There were records, cassette, tapes all kinds of music paraphernalia. The was singer performing live in store when I was there and she sounded great. I really like this store I just wish the was one like this in London.
Great place to get records. Since I was in Birmingham for the Judas Priest concert I Visited the store since it's the oldest in Birmingham and it was worth it. Lots of stuff and some real rarities especially English blues. The guys in the store were brilliant, had some laughs also and some great recommendations for records.
Visited this morning and picked up two clean jazz gems. Was offered a cup of tea and received some recommendations, best shop in Birmingham. I visit whenever in the area.
Have only visited twice so far! but both times the gents in the shop have been great; you're often even offered a free cup of tea or coffee. If you're new to record collecting then don't be put off, it couldn't be a more welcoming place.
I could have spent all day in this shop! Fantastic stock and really friendly atmosphere
I’ve been here twice and both times a great experience where I found very nice surprises. Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Will always visit when visiting Birmingham.
Always nice to be here looking for an LP. Enough to choose and there is always free coffee and tea
