Unlike the city walls of Dubrovnik, there’s no charge to walk the walls of Derry. There’s history here too and the walls give different views of the city. They are very well kept with easy access points at different locations. Look out for the little Augustine church and St. Columbs Cathedral, both of which are beautiful.
Walking The Derry Walls is an incredibly experience. Built between 1613 and 1618, they are famously the last walled city built in Europe and the only remaining completely intact walled city in Ireland. Moving around the complete one-mile loop, it is stunning to see how tightly packed and beautifully preserved the old city structure remains below you.nFor parking, skip trying to find a spot inside the gates and head straight to Bishop Street Car Park,it is very close, highly affordable, and makes starting your walk hassle-free. Do not miss this if you visit!
Was very surprised by the experience, so many different views as you walk the walls. Definitely worth the effort.
As a tourist, walking around the well-preserved medieval city walls with its four original gates would be the best choice during short time stay like 2 hours. The walls completely encircle the old city center, protecting Derry throughout centuries from foreign invaders.
