The Delaunay

About

The Delaunay is an all-day brasserie/cafe in the grand European tradition with a separate Cafe/ 'take-out' section - The Counter at The Delaunay. The Delaunay is located on the corner of The Aldwych and Drury Lane in Covent Garden.

Story

The Delaunay offers an extensive à la carte menu throughout the day, seven days a week, inspired by the grand cafés of Europe. Breakfast is served Monday to Saturday, with a full brunch on Sundays. Traditional English Afternoon Tea is served every day.

The à la carte menu has a wide choice of dishes from platters of crustacea, to salads, and café classics such as choucroute à l'Alsacienne, moules frites and steaks, as well as our special selection of Wieners and Schnitzels. A tempting array of cakes, slices, desserts and ice cream coupes follows.

Tables can be reserved in advance but a certain number are always available for 'walk-ins' on the day. Perfectly located for early pre- and late post-theatre meals, bookings are taken up to to 11.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and up to 10.30pm on Sundays.

A classy breakfast! We love the English breakfast served here. Everything is cooked to perfection and tastes perfect. The service is always good, they could definitely be a little more warm to guests but I think perhaps their usual clientele don’t care for chit chat. Nevertheless it is a no fuss, elegant place for food that we will always go to when visiting London, and we always recommend to friends.
The Delaunay provided an extraordinary dining experience with the best chicken schnitzel I've ever tasted. The charming, elegant atmosphere, though understated, was beautifully designed and welcoming. The service was impeccable, with a professional team exuding old-school hospitality and warm smiles. The cheesecake alone was worth the visit, capping off a memorable meal. A faultless dinner. The Delaunay is truly a gem, offering exceptional cuisine, ambiance, and service.
We were in the Delaunay Cafe which is right next to the restaurant/brasserie. The cafe is very cute, continental European style. It was quiet on a Sunday afternoon and perfect for a chat. We had flat whites and fantastic apple strudels.Food: 5/5
Vegetarian options available… Dreamy; amazing retro with a modernity… A lady is treated like queen there … You can go there for a work lunch meetings to cleanse the important deals you have in class : Non alcoholic drinks also available as seen
I went for my Birthday dinner. The schnitzel was delicious, cocktails great. I didnt like the apple strudel it was cold. My sister had the Salzburg souffle now that was epic! This place is worth a visitFood: 5/5
An elevated place for a posh brunch or nice dinner. Really nice service and sophisticated ambiance. The schnitzel portion is really big, i shared a chicken schnitzel with my friend and it was still very decent size. Tomatoe side dish was amazingly delicious. Baked Alaska was so so good, must try, with red currants balancing out the sweetness of the dessert. The place is quite spacious so we mananged to get a table for 3 by walking in after 8.30pm on Friday night.
Very stylish, reception staff very welcoming. Steak done perfectly with the right amount of seasoning, but..salt they use for cooking is table salt. The waiter told us it would be a waste to use flaky sea salt. Waste on customers? Cocktails were tasty and powerful.Food: 4/5
We stumbled onto this place when I couldn't get a signal on my phone for the city map and had to rely on the signs and maps at the bus stops, which the one we checked turned out to be wrong information so we got off the bus right outside this fantastic establishment. My friend only wanted a cup of tea, so we went inside. I was hungry, so I ordered the Soufflé Suisse. She tried a little bit and wound up ordering her own. It was so delicious and really hit the spot. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We loved the soufflé so much that we had to thank the chef for such a delicious dish. He came to our table and was really pleased that we were so happy with our food. It is a little pricey, but it is so worth the cost. There are two halves to this restaurant. It is really lovely inside both of them. The restrooms are clean. I highly recommend this restaurant. Try the soufflé! You will love it!
We decided on a coffee with their famous Sacher Torte at Delauneys to revive ourselves. Choosing to sit inside their cafe as it was a hot day, it was like stepping back in time - elegantly wood panelled, dim lighting, posters and framed prints nodding to its West End location and table and counter arrangement that was definitely European. I am always impressed with limited menus. This was no exception and tempted us into enjoying a supper of Swiss cheese soufflé, light, creamy not too salty with a cheesy even creamier sauce surrounding it. The pork schnitzel didn’t disappoint with perfect bread-crumbing and correct crispness with a tiny side of greens. The fresh lemon and capers balanced the pork but what I loved was the dressing on the greens - citrusy fresh with what tasted like a hint of mustard. We had the Sacher torte wedge packed and savoured the decadently rich chocolate layers at home. The coffees were good and much needed. I felt a wee bit bereft to see empty patisserie shelves but respected their rule to remove pastries at 5pm! They do make their own pastries and bread fresh daily. I’d urge all to have a snack, a meal or even just a coffee and cake at Delauneys as this establishment barks back to an elegant era where making time for coffee and conversation was a daily treat. A good place to enjoy with friends and family. Last but not the least were the waiting staff - ladies who were friendly, smiling and made the visit seem familiar!
My partner bought me a Theatre experience including dinner for 2 at The Delaunay. We are Vegans, so we emailed & called in advance to confirm that would be ok. On arrival, we were offered the regular menu / Gluten Free menu they also have a specific children’s menu - but no Vegan menu. We were offered a “chopped salad & 1 main”. Honestly my heart sank. Our Server “Ged” saw how disheartened we were. So he spoke with the chef who agreed they need to create more Vegan options. They created us 2 starters, 2 mains & 2 desserts - which were AMAZING. And they said they would be discussing a Vegan menu for ‘environmentally conscious consumers’. 100% saved by Ged - he was kind, understanding, took time to help & entirely saved our experience. Thank you.
