I recently had a hernia operation a week ago, and after reading numerous negative reviews, I was quite anxious about the service I would receive—almost to the point of canceling. However, I don't want anyone else needing surgery to be discouraged by some of the low reviews, so I'm sharing my own experience, people are very quick to write about there bad experiences but don't always find time to write a review about there positive experiences..nnFrom start to finish, including the booking of the consultation and the post-surgery care, I found all the staff and the surgeon to be exceptional. The nurse who assisted me before the operation was particularly calming and provided clear instructions on what to do and what to avoid after surgery, which immediately put me at ease.nnDuring the procedure, the team spoke to me consistently, explaining what was happening to alleviate my concerns. Their communication helped me stay relaxed and reassured me that I was in capable hands.nnThank you so much to Dr Bajwa and his team, its only been a week but already healing really well and pain has been minimal.
This practice has fallen apart. Used to be easy to get a same day face to face appointment. Now, it’s like winning the lottery. Queued in person today. Was 8 back in the queue. Also phoned and was 19 in that queue. By the time I was seen, I was 14 in the phone queue. So that’s 8 in person and 5 on the phone. Yet I got the last nurse appointment late in the evening. How can they all have gone so quick? Who’s booking them? How do people working at 8am, book anything?nnUpdate. Turned up for the 7:30pm appointment only to find my name was not on the list. I now have to wait another couple of days, in discomfort, to try again. This is appalling.
Just rang receptionist and told them I’ve had a hernia for just over a year but yesterday I’m sure it ruptured and now I can barley move or go to the toilet without being in agony. Was then rudely told by reception that because I’ve had the hernia for over a year I don’t need an appointment and should wait 2-3weeks for a Phonecall from the doctors to see if I require treatment. I then told her it’s a ruptured hernia in the abdomen how could I be told to wait 3 weeks, she responded by saying “well I can see here you missed an appointment previously”..so I responded by saying so I’m being punished for missing an appointment? Once I said that she quickly told me there was no available appointments for today and I should ring back in the morning. VERY poor experience from and already VERY poor practice. Nobody has a good word to say about that place and from reception to the top they don’t want to help you. Imagine telling someone you have a ruptured abdomen hernia and they tell you to wait 3 weeks for a Phonecall. Disgrace.
I secured a face to face appointment today, same day, in 2 hours time in fact. Must admit I felt like I'd won a prize, but it was very straightforward. I'm thinking my age might have helped me - that has to be good for something. I was 6th in the queue, best yet, and had my appointment by 08.07.59 secs.nMy appointment was with Dr Grewal, and well, I was so impressed. I had a list of 8 things I wanted to ask, and he was happy to arrange everything I needed, or research to find something better etc. During my conversation with him, I did say I wanted to feel 'looked after', and I certainly walked out from my appointment feeling exactly that. Actions will start getting put in place tomorrow with xrays at Stamford Hospital, and then if I qualify, severity-wise, I'll be able to have pain relieving injections for my arthritic shoulders, which I hope and pray will be the case. At the moment all I can take is Paracetamol, as I'm allergic to other forms of appropriate pain relief.nOne thing that was proved today was the significant benefit of being seen face to face, as opposed to a telephone call, but I'm sure the Doctors find that as difficult as we do.nSo, Dr Grewal, and the Deepings Practice, I cannot thank you enough for my experience today. I hope to see you again when I'm next in need. Linda Ingram
I have noticed a lump under my arm pit and considering that I have a family history of breast cancer, I am really worried. I am also doing what is recommended by the NHS to try and see a GP. Called the surgery this mooring and spoke to the receptionist and explained my situation to her. Her response was simply I don't have any appointments today but I will put you on the waiting list and when an appointment becomes available, we will call you to book an appointment. I asked her how long that would be and she said we are looking at 3 weeks at the moment. I explained to her that considering my circumstances, waiting 3 weeks is a long time. She didn't seem to show any concern and simply said, I understand what you are saying, but there is nothing that I can do. I rarely book appointments to see the GP because, I understand the pressure on GPs and surgeries but in the past, whenever, I have needed to do so, I have always been given a telephone appointment on the same day either from the on call GP or a nurse practitioner. Yet, in a situation like this, when I have a serious concern, I am being told I need to wait 3 weeks in order to just book an appointment, not even see the GP. I appreciate the NHS is under a lot of pressure and hence, GP surgeries have standard protocols for booking appointments, but waiting 3 weeks to just to book an appointment for a lump under my armpit is extremely disappointing and very concerning. I know the Deepings Practice have on-call doctors for same day telephone and physical appointments as I have previously been given such an appointment for myself and my children. Hence, considering my situation, I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect the receptionist to try squeeze me in where possible. But there was absolutely no care or compassion from her even though I was in tears and the only replies I got, was that there was nothing she could do. I have the name of the Receptionist if needed. But I think waiting 3 weeks for a serious concern is not really acceptable and I think receptionists who are in the forefront of GP practices, should really have some sense of concern towards patients and willingness to help otherwise, they are in the wrong profession. This is the first review I am leaving of a GP surgery but considering my reason for requesting an appointment and the way in which my call was handled, I feel the GP Practice needs to be made aware.
