Terrible stay. I booked a room for 1 night as I had a friend’s party to attend, the worst night I have ever had. Friends I had traveled with also had the room next to mine. As you walked in you have to walk through the bar area to check in, we got some looks and stares from the locals which was quite uncomfortable, the lady checked us in and gave us out keys, she let us know where our rooms where and left us to it. When I enter my room I was utterly disappointed. It was dirty, smelly and had seen better days. Only one curtain at the window would open and both were hanging off, stains on the toilet, bedding and towels smelt fusty, disgusting stained mattress, the chair was very unclean and the general cleanliness was shocking. I went down to speak to the staff and she checked my room and I was told that the curtain can’t be opened because it looks like it’s been tie clipped up then I was told someone would be up to clean the toilet. Another lady came up with a spray bottle and cloth wiped the toilet and said she will inform maintenance about the curtains. I told the manger that the room was unacceptable and very dirty, she said I could find somewhere else to stay but with only 2 hours to be at the party I had no time and I don’t know the area. It’s very noisy with people still in the pub at 3am, shouting, playing pool and loud music. There is only one mirror in the room which is in the bathroom, no plugs close by so had noway if using a mirror to do my hair. I turned the bedside lamp on and there wasn’t much point, the light that came from it was non existent. The pillows on the bed are rock hard. I had an awful nights sleep and went home feeling ill and exhausted. I do have pictures but when I add them Google won’t post my review.
We stayed here on 28th/29th June 2025, in a family room myself,Daughter, Grandson.. Stuff were absolutely lovely, explained everything we needed to know.nThe was very comfortable. Would definitely recommend if you need somewhere to call base , this the place.nPS -The cafe nxt door is amazing!!
Omg!!! Booked a room for 2 nights .lady very polite when took money and gave keys....strange atmosphere..stares as we walked in as we were not locals? Went to room which was literally upstairs where anyone could go .Went downstairs only to be confronted Infront of people that myself and partner were upstairs smoking weed??? I don't smoke? Lol then was up all night with what can only be described as an illegal lock-in with shouting and swearing all night until early hours? They left around 3am ..the place was unsafe and definitely not worth booking! The pub didn't realise that myself and partner were there reviewing the pub and had travelled from Cambridge! So my advice for this place would be to be very careful with your illegal lock ins and how you treat paying customers..also the safety side of you rooms has a lot to be desired?
A nice pub, staff and locals friendly, welcoming and helpful with any questions asked. Good selection of drinks to indulge with.nA quiet relaxing garden area if you wish to have a bit of time for yourself.nPlenty of choice to get something to eat in the area and retreat to the room.nRooms are comfortable and accommodating.nIf working away I would recommend. WiFi is on site and no extra charge.
It’s a ‘proper’ pub with friendly manager and staff. Don’t expect high tech or brand new furnishings, it’s well-worn but authentic and genuine. I will definitely stay again when working in this area. I also had 2 large bacon baps made the night before for me as I had to leave very early in the morning. Good, well priced food and menu there! It is dog-friendly too.
