After driving past here driving to Ashdown Forest during the pandemic, we finally ate here. I didnt fancy the veg roast so had a delicious mushroom on toast with onion rings. Husband had a roast, kids had a lovely pizza and garlic bread, and sausage and mash. Really warm helpful quick service. Lovely location.
Wow the team here are awesome! So friendly and welcoming and hard working. Stopped by today and the 2 girls that welcomed us were just superb! People make the difference #firstimpressions. WELL DONE
This is a standard Vintage Inn with the wooden beam decor you would expect. It was busy when we went for Sunday roast. The service was slow and the food was unremarkable. Reasonable prices though.
Amazing impromptu lunch with friendly and warm hospitaility straight after visiting Hundred Acre Wood and Pooh Sticks Bridge. Photo of AAMilne and a Pooh Bear print inside. A childhood dream realised. The food was beautifully presented and really tasty, will definitely return.
Had an amazing lunch here! Very well-kept and good food!
Lovely atmosphere, imaginative and well thought out menu. Good, nicely prepared and presented food served by attentive and thoughtful staff. The coffee needs attention; not nearly strong enough and lacking in flavour. Otherwise, a great experience.
A nice meal out in a nice atmosphere and what you could expect from a pub outside of a town so has its quaintness. The food wasn't amazing but is still of good quality, bit to much lettuce with the prawn cocktail and the Hunters chicken had a lot of sauce on it but overall not bad food just room for improvement.
Booked for a large group for Sunday lunch at 2.30pm - the time suggested - and had to wait 45 minutes for our table. The manager didn’t seem to want to let the people at our table know they needed to leave. The young staff were very helpful and the food was pretty good and clearly a popular pub. But left with a feeling we were not looked after. Unlikely to return or recommend.
We visited on impulse hungry and it was en route. It was quiet, with only a few customers. We enjoyed a relaxing, unhurriedmeal over a pint of Harvey's I wasn't driving. The food was well presented and as good as previous visits.
Being a frequent visitor to the Crow and Gate my expectations were high, however on this occasion I was left very disappointed. We asked to move table a couple of times as we were sat between a hen group and a baby, despite there being 5 free tables throughout our stay we were told that this was our designated table for the evening. The food was lacklustre to say the least, and a £20 ribeye steak was sent back due to it consisting largely of fat. This review has 2 stars rather than 1 because of our helpful and understanding waitress Ali who, bless her, was on her second day.
