Story

The Chequers pub and restaurant is located in the heart of the delightful village of Matching Green on the Herts / Essex border not far from the M11.

It is very much part of local the community. Regular local highlights include the Essex Hunt on Boxing Day, the Easter Egg hunt, the May Day parade, the Classic and Sports Car Show on the first Sunday in August and the popular Bonfire Night celebrations on the green on the 5 November.

Great, rural pub with a large beer garden out front and off to the side. Food is of a good quality. Good atmosphere and is relaxed. Friendly and attentive staff. Kid-friendliness: Large beer garden Parking: Has a car park but gets full during busy times , most seem to park around or on? the Green.
A lovely restaurant pub with great food, very friendly and attentive staff. Well worth a visit and we'll definitely be going back again.
Had a dinner tonight at this lovely pub . The premises itself very clean and nice and good for celebrating any special occasion. There is large garden area which is looks very beautiful especially at the night time . Staff is very polite and helpful. Food is very tasty , good size of portion . It’s not cheap . But i think the price is a bit to high compare other pubs or restaurants nearby. The only thing I don’t like it is the annoying while you eating your food inside the restaurant , there was quite few of them and they drive me mad throughout the all evening as I can’t cope with them watching they don’t sit on our food. Also there was one forgotten dessert to be served, so my friend was left out sitting watching us eating our dessert and still waiting to be served .It’s a nice place , with great atmosphere and food . A bit expensive Would I recommend ? - yes . But check price at the time you order, so would’ not get surprised when you’ll see final bill . But it’s a good , clean , cosy , tasty place
So my wife and I visited this place for the first time and we have never been so underwhelmed at a restaurant before. My wife had the Turkey roast which was not great and I had the Salmon noodles which only tasted of salty soya sauce! The salmon was not seasoned, there was no effort put into this dish what so ever. Safe to say we will not return
I'm over on holidays for the weekend and my brother brought my mum and I here. My mum is dairy Intolerance and they were very accomadating to her needs. The waiter went out of his way to make sure she was looked after. The food was fabulous I had the fruitt de mare a d there was plenty of fish in in. Great atmosphere around the restaurant. Will look forward to going back again. Highly recommend it.
Great place with a great atmosphere. The food is good but a bit pricey. Luckily they have big portions. I tried the roast and it was very good. There is a wide selection of wines, cocktails and mocktails.Food: 4/5
Lovely evening and great food. It wasn't too busy and we were able to have a lovely chat without having to raise our voices. All booked for a return visit just before Christmas! Staff paid particular attention to dietary needs Parking: Limited number of spaces available but parking available around the village green

Very nice but pricey for a pub. £30 for a rump steak and chips anything with it cost extra! Everything was lovely except the price especially for a little village. Perhaps they are after a more up market cusstomer??Food: 5/5
