It’s interesting that it’s built in an old castle. However everything is quite old and dirty. Area is very big and the bouldering walls are spread all around so you got to keep walking up and down to different areas. If you are there for the high walls, maybe you will enjoy it more than a boulderer would.
Visually one of the most impressive climbing facilities I've ever been to! The Castle Climbing Centre offers a lot of space for both climbing and bouldering and has many rooms across the whole building in which you can still see the structure of the Castle it used to be. The wells of the Castle has been repurposed as a climbing "tunnel" as well. Make sure you bring enough time to explore this unique climbing facility if you get the chance to visit! The quality of the boulders are equally amazing as the rest of the gym and offers a variety of difficulties for beginners and experts. Boredomless quality time guaranteed!
First of all, it’s a friggin castle!!! Very cool to explore around and look out the turrets! Decent bouldering routes especially with the recently redone area on the third floor. Great variety of slabs and overhangs for beginners and intermediates climbers too. Shirt off allowed. Clean showers and changing rooms, free lockers and free water. I think I paid 8euros as a student not including shoes
Great place, we were here for bouldering and there is PLENTY of problems to try across the 4-5 floors. Technical, overhangs, traverse walls, pump room, free standing boulders, cave etc. Obviously lots to do if you want to lead climb too. A couple of strenght fitness machines like rowers etc. Polite and helpful staff. There's also a cafe with healthy food and a shoes & clothes shop. Rental climbing shoes too.
Came here a few weeks ago and it was one of the most interesting indoor climbing facilities I have been to. It is a literal castle. The staff were all really friendly too. One thing would be that because it is a castle, it is a little older, but comeon, IT’S A CASTLE
This place has lots of character and all the pros and cons that come with that keep in mind I only had the chance to go once. PROS: Super unique location that’s fun to explore. First rock gym i‘ve been to in which getting lost is a real option. Fun to have different rooms dedicated to different styles of climbing slab, overhanging, etc. Different areas have different generations of rock gym building styles because the gym grew organically over time 30 years old in 2023 I believe. CONS: Some holds are very worn. Doesn’t seem like the place resets its routes much either. It was very crowded when I went although that’s to be expected - January 2nd. Lots of little janky corners that have been collecting dirt over the years. Attempts to cover these areas with tarp might not be everyone’s aesthetic although I didn’t mind it - a reminder of the dirty bag origins of rock climbing. Not much over V7 on the Boulder side from what I saw. Could get boring for the more experienced climber over time. This gym doesn’t have any merchandise. How? The location is the easiest sell ever. IT’S IN A CASTLE. This gym would have been a top addition to my rock gym t-Shirt collection.
Loved it! After seeing pictures online me and my partner felt like we had to visit while on our vacation I'm England. So just a one time visit but the walls were better than in the photos, the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. I felt that there were some inconsistencies in the grading of the top ropes but had a really enjoyable climbing experience overall
Highly recommended!!! There are so many different variations. Outdoor and indoor bouldering, top rope around 8 auto belays and lead.
Easily my newest favorite climbing gym. Between the numerous and plentiful top rope/lead routes, the indoor and outdoor bouldering, and the fact that it's in a CASTLE, it can't be beat. You can easily spend the day here and take your mind off all the people you now hate! They're really good about making sure you supervise your inexperienced friends like children if they aren't the most seasoned of climbers, which mine were rather appreciative of. Additionally, the routes are clearly and well graded. Other amazing amenities include: on-site café, lengthy bike racks, a garden where they grow the food for the cafe, a small river, and a kind community with interesting programs. Can't wait to come back
Cool location; bouldering problems are a bit sparse albeit the vast space. Rating is definitely tougher than other gyms. .Might not be good for absolute newbies
