I've been living here for 2 years as a student, and there are a lot of pros and cons.nnThe cons:n- The place is quite unorganized in many ways, and this happens frequently.n- There are always issues with the fire alarms in some buildings, and it takes a long time to fix them. Once, the fire alarm rang on and off from 9 AM until almost 6 PM, and they took forever to resolve it.n- they didn’t solved the fire alarm issue when it’s broken it would be ringing every week sometimes early in the morning.n- There are many water-related problems, such as low water pressure or no water at all. Once, the water didn’t work for 5 days, including in the showers and taps. They were so disorganized that they only gave us small packs of water for drinking and other uses, which wasn’t nearly enough for everyone in the accommodation. People had to shower at the gym.n- After 5 days without water, the only compensation they gave us was 2 boxes of pizza for 270 rooms at Cam Foundry.n- They rarely repaint the walls, so some rooms have dirty walls from previous tenants.n- The rent is expensive for such a small room or tiny space.n- They lost a parcel and didn't take responsibility for it.n- They take a long time to fix room issues and other problems.n- The unstable WiFi.n- Doing random room inspections whether you’re in your room or not in your room. No privacy.nnThe pros:n- The rooms are alright, depending on the size you pick and the people you share the space with.n- They have 2 cats here.n- The staffs are nice.n- The kitchen facilities are good.n- There's a cinema room.n- The security system is solid.n- They provide bike storage.n- The study rooms.
A rather terrible place to live. Absolutely extortionate rent, and the quality of the place does not compensate. Lots of things add up to make it so bad and I shall only draw from my own experience to avoid libel.nRooms have quite low amounts of floorspace. Spaces are generally easy to clean. Good size bed and furnishings. Bathrooms get dirty really quickly. Frequent water problems, including lack of water for whole days during my stay.nKitchen and facilitiesnDespite the high price, cleaning by the landlords is exceptionally rare even though only the most minimal cleaning equipment is provided, and renters are expected to take out bins. Laundry requires payment, and rooms barely have enough space for hanging laundry. Things broke in my room all of the time, the only saving grace being that repairs tended to come quickly when requested although I noted multiple instances of repairs being marked as complete even though a worker had not even been to assess the problem not even to fix it. Bike parking is plentiful and secure underneath the main building. No in-site car parking, but can park in the nearby community with the risk of upsetting locals.nThere is almost no sense of community. You have to show ID for almost any process involving reception. Reception staff are friendly, but do not let you know when parcels have arrived. No admin staff are on-site, and no-one can be contacted by telephone in an emergency. The renting policy is stringent, with great difficulty in having any overnight guests for more than 3 days, and renters required to deep clean their own rooms before moving out under threat of exorbitant cleaning fees a duty usually covered by most landlords.
Would not recommend this accommodation to anyone, they breached the contract when moving out and threw my personal belongings in the bin with no explanation other than you were supposed to move out by 10am yet the contract clearly states they will keep hold of any items left behind for a month. The washing machines smell and are filthy and have ruined multiple items of clothing and all you get offered is a free wash in the same dirty machines. There are contractors in and out your flat/ room every single week. The water is constantly broken leaving all students with no water at all. The WiFi goes down frequently. The grounds are not well kept and are over grown this is ridiculous for the extortionate price you pay to live there.
I lived in Cam Foundry from September 2023 to May 2024, and it was horrible. When I first moved in, the bathroom door was broken and needed slamming to close. Running water went out for 4 whole days, so nobody in the entire accommodation had it. They just put a few water bottles in reception to ‘solve’ it. Since I moved in, my toilet was blocked at least 10 times. They told us it was because we were using too much toilet roll which is ridiculous. They finally enlisted contractors, after brushing off our complaints, who found no issues. However, there must’ve be an issue, because the toilet kept blocking. There is something wrong with the plumbing work here. The WiFi was patchy throughout tenancy. Right before I moved out, there was no hot water throughout the complex for 2 days. Furthermore, they said if we didn’t deep clean our rooms, we would have to pay £50 to have it done for us. They expected us to deep clean the windows, door frames, all hinges, plug sockets etc, anything else you can think of, essentially wanting us to clean it for the next tenants to move in. There is no contactable telephone number, just an email which takes ages for responses. If any students are thinking of living here, please find somewhere else.
A great, modern accommodation with lots of storage space in the rooms and the communal areas are lovely too. There is often problems with the water and the WiFi however staff work very quickly to get it fixed and keep students updated throughout. Adam the maintenance guy is amazing, he gets problems fixed straight away and always tells me what he’s done after so I know what’s gone on, the communication with him is excellent.
