Café in the Crypt is a unique dining experience located in the crypt of St Martin-in-the-Fields church, which is situated in Trafalgar Square. The café offers a variety of traditional British dishes, as well as a selection of cakes, pastries, and hot drinks. The visitor enjoys the unique, positive atmosphere, decor, and food. Crypt provides a unique and atmospheric setting for a restaurant, prices are generally considered reasonable given the central location. In addition, the staff so friendly and attentive with their service. Overall, Cafe in the Crypt is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something a little different in London's bustling Trafalgar Square area.
Lovely hidden place but feels a bit like a school canteen with trays left on tables. Also the lift didn’t work when I went and it looked like it hadn’t worked in a while. Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible when I went july 23 because the lift didn’t work.
Great stop in the Crypt Café for a quick brunch lunch in a hurry. The choices at the counter were a little overwhelming given we were past ‘hangry’ so being indecisive; we went with crumble custard & coffee: a winning combination. Plenty of choice if you are able to make it! The crumble was delicious & plentiful, the custard was smooth, sweet & hot & the coffee flat white was flat & white! The staff are friendly at the counters although given the location under St Martins; it can be worth leaving one of your party to find a table if you intend to sit in during busy times as it is often difficult to find somewhere whilst balancing your tray. There is a lift that will take you down into the crypt from street level but it can be deathly slow, so descending the steps gracefully may be preferable.
I needed a quick bite to eat while attending the anti ULEZ protest. It is a lovely location to get away from the maddening crowds and have a little peace and quiet. Food is excellent and fairly priced, service was good and I was able to sit and enjoy my grub. Oh I asked for a tuna bap, but got a tuna wrap. It was still very good.Food: 5/5
Just a nice place for a light meal and some good music. The design is really nice and real conversation starter. Just love the live music. I don’t know what other to say than its a must for me to visit when in London as its just such a warm and therapeutic place to sit, think, chat, and have lunch. God bless to all and enjoy.Recommended dishesBeef Pie & Chips, Mince Pie, Lunch, Soup And
We had a lovely lunch at the café in the crypt. It wasn't cheap but worth it, it was very delicious. Tap water was free, you'll find it at the service table after the check out.Food: 5/5
I chose this place for two reasons: I was going later to the opera in the London Coliseum and the idea of eating in a crypt intrigued me. I got there around noon and the place was packed. To be on the safe side, I ordered something simple: a pastrami sandwich. It was a good choice. Eating above the tombs felt a bit sacrilegious but it's good to get a bit of atmosphere without the fussiness.
A self-service cafe under the church of St Martin's in the Fields in Trafalgar Square. It is amazing value for money and very good quality food. They serve full meals as well as coffee and pastries. With lots of seating, it is a great place to take a break from sightseeing or shopping. It is always worth looking to see if there is a concert in the church near the time of your visit. There is lift access if the spiral staircase access is too daunting. Toilets and a gift shop are added attractions.
Amazing food and staff are excellent - a lovely little bolthole with a wide variety of food including salads, roasts and piesFood: 5/5
One of my favourite places in all of London. Incredibly peaceful atmosphere where you can easily read a book while enjoying a nice coffee but it’s also a great place to bring friends and have a chat. Queuing up for food may feel a bit like being in a school cafeteria but once you find a table you can relaxFood: 4/5
