Good place to stop for a drink & snack after a short walk around Connaught Water or a longer walk through Epping Forest. Situated next to Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge & the Epping Forest Information Centre. The coffee is good as are the cakes. It can be quite pricey but for the location a valuable & worthwhile cafe. Indoor seating is provided up & downstairs as well as a good amount of seating outside at the front & back. A large water fountain at the rear provides drinking water for pets & bottle top-up. There is paid parking opposite & two free of charge spaces directly behind the Butlers Retreat for Blue Badge holders making it a good place to start/finish a circular walk through the Forest.
Not child friendly, and no kids menu. Asked them to create a kids scrambled eggs and sausage. They produced two poached eggs and two slices of toast and two sausages for a three year old!!. Says it all really. Don't bring kids here.
Beautiful location with tables outside overlooking Chingford Plain and the forest beyond. We had a pot of tea and open toasties, really tasty and lovingly prepared. Very friendly staff, and perfect after a walk in the forest.Food: 5/5
Nice wee place when you've trecked through the forest. Nice wee place when you haven't trecked through the forest and decide to park yerself on a bench and look at the forest. Lovely sandwiches, cake and coffee. Very attentive staff.Food: 4/5

Café on the edge of the forest. Excellent staff. Eat in, take away or sit outside. Nice range of snacks and food, good coffee, moderately priced.Food: 4/5
Great setting especially in sunny weather right in the middle of the park. Food is healthy hearty and very good
We went there to have soup for lunch, but they do not serve it. The coffee was good. All the cakes left had nuts. My partner had the raspberry and almond cake, which was on the dry side. You can get a free parking permit when you order from BR. Otherwise you need to down load an app and pay online. Accessible parking is available on the same side as BR.
Great place for a coffee and a snack! Sausage in a ciabatta was lovely, with a pot of tea. They serve all the usual coffees and drinks as well. The soups looked good, as did the breakfasts. If the weather is good, then sit on the picnic tables out the back and enjoy the views across Epping Forest. Plenty of seating inside, and lovely small function room upstairs, bookable for groups up to 35 I think? Anyway, enjoy the nearby woods and Chingford Plain, and then a coffee or two at Butler's.
I've ridden past this place on many occasions but today was the first time I've been in. Its a lovely place a short walk from Chingford station so easily from east and central London and its in Epping Forest. Its tempting to say the edge of Epping Forest but in reality, although not in the heart of the forest its definitely well inside the southern boundary. Coffee and cake was decent as was the service. I'd definitely stop there again even though its not in a convenient spot for most of the bike riding I do.
