The Cafe at the Crypt
"Located in the crypt of St Martin’s, this welcoming and hidden café has been a favourite of tourists and locals alike for 30 years. Original brick-vaulted ceilings and historic tombstones lining the floor provide the backdrop to a varied selection of freshly prepared, value for money food throughout the day. From a café by day, by night the iconic vaulted Crypt beneath St Martin’s on Trafalgar Square is transformed into an atmospheric music and cabaret venue for jazz, soul, folk and blues. Also available for private hire, the Crypt is a stunning historic venue for corporate events, private parties, dinners and receptions."

A nice little cafe below the church that used to be a hidden gem, now big signs and a gift shop, so more busy now and more tourists. The cafe food is fine and service just ok. It's still fun to wander around and look at the grave markers.Food: 3/5
Great place to see the amazing architecture of the subterranean crypt under St Martins in the fields. The cafe has quite a good selection of meals, snacks cakes and drinks including alcoholic beverages. There are bathrooms also. In this space there are also concerts held. There is a gallery but it didn’t have an exhibition at the time.
It was very busy when I went, had a hard time finding a table. The fact you can eat/drink on top of catacombs is definitely unique. It was mainly an older crowd.Food: 4/5
Cute place to grab some sweets, a drink or a bite, surrounded by history. Beautiful ceiling, crypts all over the floor. Good selection but food just okay.Food: 4/5
I got confused by a big sign that said ‘enter here’ and led to a locked door but I found the real entrance on the other side. The food is way better than it ought to be though staff seemed to be training and weren’t quite completely on top of things. Very unique experience and very easy to just do.Food: 5/5
Coffee and the Apple crumble were okay. But the ambience really stood out. Would definitely visit again.Food: 4/5
The Café in the Crypt is located beneath St Martin-in-the-Fields church on Trafalgar Square. This café has been here for 30 years. The crypt itself dates back to the 18th century, originally serving as a burial site. In the 1980s, the space was transformed into a café, retaining its original brick-vaulted ceilings and historic tombstones that line the floor. Look down on the floor and you’ll see it’s paved with gravestones!
Very interesting to have coffee here. Recommend to have special feeling after museums!Food: 4/5
The cafe located in the crypt beneath the historic church in Trafalgar Square has a charming and concealed ambience. However, the thought of resting bodies beneath the floor of the cafe hinders my ability to fully enjoy the food there. Despite the cosy and relaxing atmosphere, I find it challenging to eat or drink in such a setting. Nevertheless, it remains a great place to visit. Regrettably, the names and notes on the floor are gradually deteriorating, making some of them difficult to read. Nonetheless, it is an intriguing location that is undoubtedly worth a visit.
Hidden beneath a historic church is the crypt. Built in the 18th century, beautiful construction with gravestones visible on the floor! There is a lift to take you down if stairs are not preferable. I was there to watch a country gig. Unfortunately the view and acoustics were not too great. But otherwise a missed opportunity if not explored.
