Lovely oldy world pub. You will receive a warm welcome. Reasonably priced food.
Wonderful atmosphere, everyone very friendly & jolly, exceptional beer selection in perfect condition Change of landlord with the owner and his wife now taking over. Sorry but the beer is not as good but you get a friendly welcome and they are now doing pub food. Still a jolly and sociable pub now benefiting from a lick of paint.
Such a friendly welcome. We can recommend the pies very highly. Delicious food, excellent local cider, easy parking, a lovely garden to sit in with friends or family. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
Small, recently decorated 15th century pub. Beautiful in its simplicity, small intimate beer garden, excellent range of ale and beers and good choice of food. Brilliant to have Hobgoblin on tap locally! Very easy to find, and pretty route in. Oh, and a real log fire they even light in summer.
Beautiful pub, warm welcome and lovely food... We sat under the stars in the garden whilst an owl hooted... Landlady even let us park up our van in the field at the back! Thanks so much!
I've known & used this pub on & off for over 40 yrs. I now live in the north, so when travelling with my GF I thought I'd take her to a classic old English country pub - the Bottle. When we arrived I was astonished at how run down the place was, it used to be thriving. The landlord / owner seemed to be very nice & pleasant, but his wife was a nightmare - she didn't seem to realise that she could be heard screaming & shouting abuse even from the beer garden - about 50 feet from the building ! I initially felt sorry for him, but now I've been reading reviews about how he as owner / absentee landlord living in Aus treated his tenants, who actually made the place work, I don't feel sorry for him at all. It seems, as other people have suggested, a deliberate ploy on his part to run it into the ground & sell off all the land for developement ! He's certainly no "mein host" as he or his wife couldn't even get a 3 drink order right ! The local community needs to band together to buy this guy out & take the Bottle back to it's real status as a valued & prospering community pub !
On my last visit it was good to see four local ales on - the Summa That Branscombe Brewery and Norman's Conquest Cottage Brewing were both excellent. Also on were Otter Ale and Otter Bitter. The food was enjoyable although the menu is not extensive, the portions are not over-generous and the prices are very steep. Just better than average - the prices let it down.
Rubbish, looked on line looked good. Drive from Broadwindsor, about 5 miles, arrived at 6.00 pm advised opening time, no sign is life and place looked like a war zone. Don’t even bother to go to the Grayhound in Beaminster, excellent food, lovely service and good prices .
Good beer, even did me a lovely pork pie with mustard. Also the fire was going on the hottest day of the year!!!! They say it gets cold at night in that old pub.
We recently had a weeks holiday in Marshwood, my three brothers and their partners and myself and husband each day we called in at the Bottle Inn and was made to feel really welcome. The beers were excellent and also the food, especially the Thai evening.
