A small independent bookshop with a big stock range that includes maps, local books and guides, fiction, a good children's selection and more.

Story

Kirkby Stephen sits in the Upper Eden Valley, with views of the Lakeland and Howgill Fells, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines. Our local books – from walking guides to memoir, industrial history to nature books – reflect our extraordinary location. We also sell maps, all sorts of fiction, travel writing, poetry, art, history, etc., and a good children's range.
If we don’t have it in stock, ask us to order it for you. We can also source hard-to-find and out-of-print books, and sell greetings cards and National Book Tokens.
The Bookshop is owned by Barbara Dowson, and you’ll meet Bridget, Charlotte and Donna behind the till too.
