After a long walk, stopped off for lunch and a few drinks. Friendly staff, good range of drinks, including Heineken! Not seen that in many places around the area. Food was good portions and good quality. Good size garden area, so looking forward to going back when it's a bit warmer. Highly recommended for drinks, food and relaxing.
We stopped in for a late lunch. At the time we stopped in there were not many other patrons which made for quick service, and everyone was very friendly. The food came up quickly and was delicious. We tried the fried brie, tomato soup, gammon roast, and a portion of chips. All the different parts of the roast dinner were excellent, perfect gammon slices, tasty gravy, roast potatoes - crunchy outer, tender fluffy inner, carrots - firm with a little crunch, cheesy cauliflower - firm stalk with soft florets with a slightly strong cheese sauce... basically as good a roast dinner as I've had. The honeycomb cheesecake we had to finish was excellent too.
OK sunday lunch, pudding very good. Not as good as some other pubs in the area, but enjoyed our visit.
Been here many times since the review below and it's always a great experience. A fantastic village countryside pub. Nice and super friendly staff who serve delicious food and drinks. The pub is comfortable and decorated to a high standard and it also has a nice beer garden with swings and a slide for the kiddies which is perfect for those warmer days and it's pretty quiet there with only the occasional car, cyclist or horse and rider passing by. The pub is kept nice and clean and we witnessed the staff sanitizing the bar and tables whilst we were there, so we felt Covid safe. There is also some nice picturesque countryside surrounding the village which makes it an ideal stop whilst out walking or cycling. There is quite a few footpaths within easy reach of The Black Lion to enjoy a stroll and well behaved dogs and their owners are always welcome.
Was unfortunate to be the only people inside so can't rate the atmosphere but the bar area was very nice and clean and well presented. The lady behind the bar was very friendly too which is hugely important
Really nice place .have visited with my partner a few times for drinks but ate for the first time. Very friendly and attentive staff. Recommend the build your own chicken burger! It's huge and delicious.!
Nice warm pub with fire. Just right for a damp November cycle ride. Good food, good beer, warm welcome. Certainly be back.
