Stunning eatery with a traditional pub feel located just outside Reading so you don’t have to deal with Reading traffic. Staff are extremely friends and their is a wide selection of pub favourites, vegan options and alternatives. A true heritage pub of 500 years, there are booths and couches in the dining space, a welcoming bar and outside seating. Highly recommended the Apple Pie and custard when you finish your mains!
If you are looking for a pub with a really good garden kind of out of the main town centre, this is the place to go. I discovered this place way before when it’s still called the Black Boy. I love the vibe and their food is great! Staff were very accommodating as well First time to try the mountain ribs and we thought we can finish it, dare you we didn’t! It is good at least for 3 to 4 people! It comes with chips and coleslaw too! Lots of choices from the menu. Variety of drinks as well
Great stop off from the M4 for a bite to eat and stretch the legs. Good selection of pub classics and menus for gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan plus kids though expect the usual fast food fare fish fingers/sausages etc. Staff are brilliant - friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Lovely and spacious, with a stretch tent out the rear and plenty of parking. Clean and tasteful decor. We will return.
We ate there last night and had some good food and drink. The dishes on the menu were really varied and plenty of choice. We tried the confit duck and the ham and chicken pie as well as some desserts. My only comment would be that pie would have benefited from more meat in it and a thicker sauce as I was left trying to scoop it out of the dish with a knife and fork. It was tasty though, so not bad. It was a little cold on the feet to be outside but the heaters worked pretty well for the upper half. The service was good too. I would try it again indeed!
Lovely pub and the food was 5 stars. The staff were really friendly as well, this is going to be a firm favourite of ours now, after finding it by chance on a Google search for Sunday lunch.
Been there today and thoroughly loved the food and ambience. Above all the staff very helpful as I took my friend who came down from USA and he was very impressed with the staff help. Especially the lady manager in green dress.
The food is very tasty! I recommend the chicken and ham pie. Definitely consider the Eton mess four dessert as well. The outside is colourful and nicely decorated. There are some heated tables, heated booths, and heated cabins. Dogs are allowed outside. The staff are exceptionally friendly. Love this place!
Four stars for the venue but three stars for the food. First thing I liked about this place is how much parking they have for their patrons - definitely a plus. The second thing I loved was their outdoor covered seating area. It’s such a great vibe for a restaurant. Very cool. I came here with a bunch of friends for a lunch so what I write is based on the menu offered us during lunch. It’s a boring menu. Two of my colleagues order fish ‘n chips and quite frankly the fish was overdone in the batter. The one colleague who had it told me later they were disappointed and would give the meal a 5/10. I had the Mexican Burger. Basically a beef burger with some sort of mild sauce on the side. Boring. Totally. However, it might be a totally different experience in the evening so please don’t write it off because of my review. I’m just writing about the experience I had.
Really well thought out spaces and flows, and lots of space around. Cocktails were great gin fizz especially, but the ribs - oh god the ribs. Order the Mountain of ribs and take home what you can't finish. They are so, so good not too sweet. I added the chips as they seemed a fitting garnish. Can't tell you about the slaw as I wasn't able to fight my way theough to it. Staff were really good too! Ribs!
Staff is great and we were seated on a busy Saturday night. Shared the full rack of ribs and these are definitely worth it. Not just that but the chips are crispy and fluffy and coleslaw is nice doesn’t taste cheap. Would like to see some local lagers on tap but overall the place has great food, service and atmosphere
