Nice cosy old school pub with a good variety of drinks and a lovely menu. Friendly service and attentive staff. Me & my family always have great meals here. We have been for lunch, evening meals, and even breakfasts on Sat/Sun mornings! They are always good at altering meals for our requests such as chips instead of mash, gravy on the side etc and there is always something for our family members who are gluten-free & diary-free. We have had birthday meals here as well, even for groups as much as 12 but obviously booked in advance as a large group & it's always enjoyable and a good atmosphere in the pub. Great beer garden with plenty of seats, outdoor heaters, flower beds, a bowling green, and all with such a pretty backdrop of a church and mighty old trees. It's definitely a hidden gem! The pub is an old coaching station inn, so the only thing is that the bar corridor can be tight for space when there is a queue for the bar, but everyone is always in good spirits to get past each other if needed, etc. Plus, it is all part of the pubs old school charm! So go with a smile and enjoy the buildings history as well as the food and drink. Dietary restrictions: If you are gluten free like myself, there is a QR code on the menu for allergens. Staff are always happy to go to the kitchen and ask questions and double check things for me. There is a NGCI menu available to download off the pub website as well if you prefer than than checking the allergy lists for each item via the QR code. Vegan and Vegitarian are shown on the main menu. There is vegan Custard for the deserts ;-
Reserved a table, we came in and the table was covered in alcohol, food and used straws, even though it had our reserved sign on it. Not a single person at the bar so we asked one of the waitresses where to order drinks and she said if we wait at the bar someone will be there in 5 seconds… so we went back to the bar and she was the one going back to the bar, so what’s the need for the attitude. We asked for a sangria spritz from their summer menu and was flat out told they don’t serve sangria. I had to argue that it’s on your menu! Surely you serve it?? They checked and just like that, they do serve it, so we get the sangria without the fruit and ice as advertised and sit back down. Later we order a tea to the table as my mother in law is cold due to their heat lamps not working, all other tables had their drinks brought to our table, not us, the same waitress comes out to the front of the pub and shouts ‘who ordered a tea’ Much to the bemusement of all the England fans sitting watching the game who started to jeer and laugh about someone ordering a tea at the pub, she knew what she was doing. Never coming back to such awful service.
I've been here several times. This time, with my eldest son, on our way back from a shopping trip. It's a dog friendly pub, fortunately, as we had Nelson, my sons dog, with us. Water and biscuits were supplied for him without us asking. Staff are polite, courteous, and helpful. We sat outside at the back overlooking the bowling green as it was a fairly warm day. Our food was served promptly and was very tasty.
This is one of the best local pubs I've ever been to, especially the lamb tripe is quite delicious. The environment is pleasant, and the service is quite warm and welcoming. Parking: small parking lot
Great untouched pub. I had my first pint there illegally 50 years ago. It's just as I remembered it. Brew11, too. Magic. The food is excellent. Bar staff caring and efficient. What more do you need?
Arrived Saturday evening at 8.30 pm to an empty pub! The setting is stunning. Quaint traditional pub, with a bowling green, next door to a church. We took a seat at the table with our name on and still no one approached us. My husband went to the bar to say we were here and was told he needed to order drinks there. He was also told we had to make our menu choices on the next 15 minutes, at the bar. One person ordered the steak and venison pie to be told it wasn’t available. The sticky chicken skewer starter was just cold chicken on salad with sauce drizzled over. Apparently the lamb shank was good and the chicken pie was ok. The hake and scallop tagliatelle was very disappointing- very salty and far too many capers. All in all a very disappointing experience with a total lack of service. Such a shame as the place itself is so lovely.
A recent visit on a decent evening. Not full sun. Nice setting both indoors and outdoors. Busy. Food tasty, but basic pub grub. This is OK. Quite a difficult set up to order and pay. Rather narrow and old fashioned corridor leading to bar. Reasonable value. Best to pre book.Recommended dishesPie of the Day
Great local pub that has been around for generations and continues to be an awesome place. Food is great, Sunday roast is amazing, lots of options for sharing, the staff are super friendly and helpful. Lots of area at the back for big and small groups, definitely recommended for a few pints!Food: 5/5
Visited this pub recently, and have done consistently every few months, as part of our Harborne Pubs Tour. Situated next to St.Peters Church in Harborne in a very scenic, quiet area with it's own bowling green and spacious outdoor seating area. Great beer, polite and friendly service and tasty food served in very reasonable portions!. A great place to visit especially on a summer's day.
After an unfortunate car-related incident, my mum and I needed to wait several hours on a Friday evening for roadside assistance. As a result, we walked into The Bell for a bite to eat and somewhere warm and accommodating to sit. We couldn’t have been more delighted with the food, service and atmosphere at The Bell! The food came quickly my mum and I both had the Lamb Shank and was really delicious, the lamb fell off the bone, and the entire dish was rich and warming. Steve the barman was incredible, helping us both with phone charging, offering many a friendly chat and generally going above and beyond. The whole team was concerned for our situation and very kind throughout our visit. The pub is lovely, and in the gorgeous area of Harborne, next to an historic church - all very picturesque! Thank you Steve and the team for making our bad day so much brighter!
