Teapot Island

Story

Teapot Island is a teapot museum in Kent, England. The museum grew from the personal teapot collection of owner Sue Blazye, which started when her grandmother gave her a teapot in 1983, encouraging other family members and friends to do the same. The growth of her collection eventually led to her needing a larger space to house it, and she established Teapot Island in Yalding, in November 2002. The building used for the collection used to be a cafe called the Riverside Diner, which has been in operation since the 1950s. The collection has been valued at £15,000.Teapot Island was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2004, for being the largest collection of teapots. The museum lost this title in 2011, when it was awarded to a man in China with a collection of 30,000. In 2011, the museum was featured in the book Crap Days Out, in which the authors stated: "It's awful if you don't like teapots. But it's probably all right if you do."

A really great place if you love teapots, it has a museum of 8000 teapots! We did a pottery painting session for a friend's birthday, it was very therapeutic. We had high tea with it, which was individual sandwiches and home-made scones and pots of tea. Lovely little place near a river. Kid-friendliness: Lovely park and plenty of things to do Parking: Parking £3.50 for the whole day Wheelchair accessibility: Lots of slopes and no steps
I arrived on a sunny Monday after a very busy sunny weekend. This meant that a number of items were not on the menu. Fortunately this did not affect my choice - a BLT on a brown baguette. I was very happy to sit inside in the air conditioned room.
Arrived late - as they were closing - but we were welcomed in. Had a pot of tea and sat there and chatted a while - it was a cold day - but I’m sure the location is lovey with a big outside area and lovely position by the river … inside the tea room- a bit stark with the tiles - but done as a precaution for the odd floods - but otherwise nice. And I’m sure we will be back for a Sunday lunch … and the tea pot display was great !!
We went to Yalding so our dogs could have a splash around in the water for a few hours and then we popped in to teapot island for lunch, the food was lovely but for the four of us was nearly £60 which seemed a bit expensive just for a cafe so I'd advise to take a picnic or even a bbq to save money.
Visited today for the first time today and we had such a lovely time. The breakfasts we had were very generous for the price and delicious! It is always lovely to find somewhere that has a play area and not only did this have but the atmosphere was very relaxed and family friendly. The staff were welcoming too and couldn't do enough for you. The view is lovely and the ice-cream wasn't bad either! Thank you for a lovely time and we will definitely be back.
Run down and lacks magic that the title of ‘Teapot Island’ suggests. Really disappointing. The owner would rather shout for his staff to come serve people that get up and serve himself. Very odd atmosphere. The teapot exhibition was quirky and the collection was vast, hence the two stars not one. The tea was cheap and tasted like dishwater, not what you would expect from a ‘Teapot island’.
Great collection of teapot's in their walkthrough museum. Nice friendly restaurant, with great service and even better food Kid-friendliness: Secure playground with fencing although adult supervision is requested, also some sit on play item's in the eating area. Parking: Parking is in a adjacent field, £3 one price parking with a barrier entrance and exit. Footbridge to teapot island. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access for wheelchairs and hard surface path's
Friendly staff and lovely food at the delightful teapot island with riverside seating and a teapot museum. What more can ask for?
Lovely little cafe and dinner ideal for a little stop over if your walking though on a river walk, lots of choice in the cafe service is good and friendly lots and lots of teapots as you would think from all over the place, different shapes and sizes
Teapot island is a great place to go for a day out which was fun to have a cream tea with scones with jam and clotted cream which was nice and messy. Then we sat inside the cafe to look at all of the teapots while dad got some bread pudding to take home with us and went for a walk to see the motor homes which looks pretty. After we walked past the river with canals on that people live in and took a couple of pictures of the boathouse restaurant which looked pretty with the fairy lights on.
