This Castle was built in 17th century and Col. John Munro lived here in 18th century. Col. J Munro was in British army and in Madras regiment. He was hired by the kings of Travancore to be a collector of Kollam, Quilon, an undeveloped area of Travancore. An archeapelago, near Kollam was named after him by the locals. Munro built a monument at Alness in memory of his time in Madras regiment. It is called Fyriech monument, on Jubilee path.
