There are various ways of assessing an establishment. Uppermost among them are first impressions; they rarely deceive. The gentleman who greeted us at Lochgilphead's Taj Mahal was full of smiles and took the time and trouble to advise on various dishes. The popadoms were crisp, the pickles generous, the prawns delicious and the jalfrezi packed full of flavour. Although the Taj Mahal does not have a licence the McColls around the corner has a good selection of drinks for sale by a jolly fellow. The restaurant is spotless and every diner was happy to banter. There is a good atmosphere. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening. It was much appreciated. Nick and Hilary.
Came here about a year ago and it was fantastic, we were staying locally. We went twice in one week. Staying close again and will be visiting again this week. Top food every time. Best curry I have ever tasted.
This is a fantastic restaurant and take away with brilliant menu, attentive and caring staff and top quality fresh food. The owner is very friendly and genuinely cared about our experience. Very highly recommended.
Best takeaway I've had, you can have a 40 minute wait but its worth the wait. Good portion size, staff friendly. Tikka butter chicken is my absolute favourite
My last meal in here was not a memorable one. It should have been called biryani chicken surprise with the surprise being finding the chicken. I got 4 pieces of chicken . First time it has been unsatisfactory in taj-mahal. Food was phenomenal in previous visits. Spicy onions are amazing. Come on stop letting yourselves down
Food 11/10 Ambiance 11/10 Service 10/10 Value 10/10 I'm not usually one for Indian restaurants in non ethnic community areas and the food is not usually authentic and is tailored to the local indigenous palate. Over this place is certainly an exception to the rule totally and utterly. The ambiance is amazing in this nice Petite restaurant. They appear to be extremely busy and rightfully so with exquisite divine food to die for. Their biryani is totally out of this world really is. The curry dishes date huge portion I cannot finish in one meal at all. Not oily and very tasty and sumptuous. If you're ever passing by a strongly recommend to stop by. Will be greeted by a most hospitable owner who will do anything to satisfy your desires of South Asian food.
I genuinely can’t speak higher of this restaurant. Curry was amazing, service with a smile…and when we approached, with all other eateries in a 2 mile radius was closed, we’re more than happy to accommodate - even though their sit down restaurant was closed. No alcohol license but will not charge corkage when you bring your own. Food was beautifully spiced, freshly cooked and brilliant veggie options too. Thank you to all at the Taj! You made our evening.
Superb onion bhajees and the Butter Chicken was delicious - very tender meat. No bar but take your own, no corkage charge. Manager very polite and attentive. Would recommend.

Faboulous Indian 6 of the ChawnWheelers had a lovley evening 12th August 2022 every dish was FAB and great service from the staff just be aware it does not have a drinks lience but there is a local Tesco express at the local garage within walking distance
