The staff claim to have specialist vets when they do not. I used this practice having been let down by Ashby Road vets who decided, against the advice of the referral vet, not to provide any further post-op checks, despite my rabbit having continued to lose weight, not eating her caecotrophs, being unable to close her eyelids and being relatively inactive. When I looked at the meds that she was discharged with, I did not know if the Lubrithal was OK for a rabbit (the referral vet who performed her surgery had prescribed Lacri-Lube) and how long she should stay on Sulfatrim for. I e-mailed the Ashby Road vet, but she did not reply. I e-mailed the referral vet who, thankfully, provided a prompt reply and advised, 'Sulfatrim for 2 weeks and we will re-evaluate at that point'. I, therefore, had to find a vet practice that was willing to provide my rabbit with the rest of her required post surgery care, which was Swanbridge, after having been misinformed by their staff that they had an exotics vet. During the rabbit's first appointment, the vet stopped her Sulfatrim without consulting the referral vet (it must be said that Ashby Road staff repeatedly failed to provide the rabbit's clinical records). Six days later the rabbit was admitted for GI Stasis treatment and was prematurely discharged without Metoclopramide. She did not eat at home and was re-admitted during out of hours. The vet was polite- I was worried that she would be annoyed at me for 'phoning out of hours for a rabbit. Thankfully, unlike many vets, she knew how to treat GI Stasis and they had the necessary drugs in stock. She also 'phoned me to check the medication that had been prescribed by the Ashby Road vet. One of the vets even kindly took the time to e-mail me. Admin staff messed up an insurance claim which they failed to rectify. Whilst not perfect (although they did have to take over the care of a post bilateral bulla osteotomy rabbit with TMJ arthritis and bilateral facial paralysis, without the clinical records- not an ideal situation), I have found Swanbridge staff to be relatively better and nicer than staff at other vet practices in the area that I have used; my rabbit has never had to wait in a room with badly behaved dogs. However, they now deny rabbits VHD2 vaccination, despite it being recommended. Importantly, the staff are still claiming to have specialist vets working there when they do not- misleading potential clients about that can have dire consequences for their animals.
