I also find think these kind of attacks or horrible and not fair. I worked at Sunhill and think the care we gave was very good. People forget that we take residents that are very challenging that all other homes say no to. Sometimes they refuse to be supported. That doesn’t mean we neglect them. What do you don’t mention is the many times we might try and convince someone to accept our help and they refuse. Or the times when the more challenging residents might threaten, hit and scratch us. Or the many times we tried to get professional mental health support via the NHS who continually come up short. Care homes cannot cut resident toenails only trained podiatrists and if a resident refuses you can’t force them.nnWe get lots and lots of praise from other families so sometimes when things breakdown, it’s not always our fault.nSometimes people need more support than we can offer and families who don’t visit frankly have no idea the struggles the team or their relatives go through
My mother has lately become a resident at Sunhill Court. While she remains desperate to return to her own house and ‘freedom’, and no care home can offer that degree of familiarity and personal self-determination, nevertheless this home is very comfortable, with a hard working, kind and friendly staff, headed by an impressively committed manager. The environment is spacious, and while the armchairs are not set in that ‘traditional’ circle around the TV there is a panoramic view from the spacious lounge there are also activities organised at different times. Plus the garden is lovely, to which there is access throughout the summer, including the possibility of residents working with the gardener. Food is plentiful and the decor colourful. My mother’s bedroom was redecorated to her taste before she moved in en-suite, including TV and while it is tragic to say the least that she cannot safely remain in her own home, as the highly independent and self-sufficient woman she has always been, I feel happy, at least, that Sunhill offers her a base of warmth and respect, as well as the possibility of being joined by her cat. Even my very analytical and critical mother accepts that the place is ‘very nice’. Otherwise, I have open visiting access, while residents can be taken out and about, by relatives and friends, where sensible and safe. The manager, what’s more, makes herself available at all times, regarding any concerns. This is reassuring, as there are always worries and queries, however well organised and intentioned such a home might be.
Lovely place my grandad has been here since 2021.nSince the new management took over they have been continually improving ensuring that all residents and families are comfortable.nMy grandad is looked after very well always looking clean and smart and more importantly he is very happy at the home.nI would never put him somewhere he didn't want to be he was previously in two other care homes and was unable to settle untill he went to sunhill.nI always made to feel welcome the food is great and the are always smiling and happy nothing is to much trouble for them.
My brother was here for a year until they gave razor blades to him, someone suffering from alcohol related dementia and depression.nnThe picture below is two months on, I will never recover from what I saw he had done to his arm when I got to A&E, after a 6hr op by the plastics department he then returned to Sunhill, he was left in his nappy, tights etc from the op for two days and we had to clean him up.nThey then didn’t watch him take his antibiotics so another month in hospital, needless to say he isn’t at Sunhill now and I threw in the feet pic as one of the many incidents of neglect he faced here.
Ive been workin in Sunhill in year 2020. I am back to Sunhill recently as an agency Nurse and ive done at least 3 shifts there. Since new Management took over Sunhill look amazing. Very modern. Happy and clean residents very caring staff beautiful reception area design for families and visitors, i am impressed. All families are welcome any time with no upfront informing home some families still visiting even when their loved ones passed away. That is mean a lot about Sunhill. This home is really caring and i thought i shpuld share it for those who feel thay need home for their loved one to be full of love and respect!
