This review is a reflection of the GP practice themselves and the AskMyGP service they provided throughout COVID. I am a twin and my twin sister is also registered with this GP. There have been numerous occasions where my medical information has been sent to my sister regarding topics that I would not have wanted my sister to be aware of and vise versa. This was completely unprofessional and has left me with a strong distrust for the application as well as the practice as, when I tried to inform them of the situation, all I got was a mere 'oopsie daisies' only for it to happen again. This is surely a big data breach, no? I am certain there will be people in the practice with the same last names and/or birth days as others so I wonder if this has happened to anyone else too. Thankfully, my sister and I are very close and I share a lot of my health issues with her but can you imagine if we were estranged or not on good terms with each other? Moreover, the student health centre also includes Radford Medical Practice which have been turbulent to say the least. There was a time where my medical letters have been mishandled whereby I received emails that my medical letters had been ready to collect. Upon arriving they said they didn't have them and sent me to the city campus practice who also said they didn't have them. I went back to the Radford Practice and showed them proof and confirmation that they did have the letters and then they managed to find them in a filing cabinet right behind them, again, with an 'oopsie daisies' approach. Medical health is not an 'oopsie daisies.'
Awful doctors surgery, staff are rude and talk down to students. Close to NTU halls so perfect location, but you can never actually get an appointment! For instance, I went to A&E for an asthma attack one evening and was instructed to get an emergency next day appointment, for a check up here. Receptionist was rude and told me they only take online, over the phone appointments. I explained to them the severity of the situation and need for this appointment to be in person and as soon as possible an asthma review requires in person consultation. I was given an over the phone appointment later on in the day finally! in which the GP told me they’d need to see me in person - what I’d asked for all along! This was a week later and by which time my asthma situation had worsened, forcing me to up my dosage of medication. This is not the first time this has happened, the receptionists seem very reluctant to give out appointments and everything seems to be over the phone! Am changing medical practices as soon as possible, do NOT register here.
IF YOU USE GENDERGP DONT GO HERE What a waste of two months of my life, refused to work with gendergp as said they were “not qualified” when they are more qualified on trans care then anyone in this surgery and referred me to go through nhs for transgender care which is ridiculously long and after i waited half a year and paid for private care that wasn’t happening. They also completely ignored that I was currently on hormones and that cutting me off suddenly would be detrimental to my health. Not to mention that i asked to for a phone call to talk about health issues before and they refused to even call me for no reason and undermined my issues causing me to have to call back until i talked to a doctor that would treat me how it needed to be. Applied to change surgery’s which i notified the receptionist when she called asking if i wanted this appointment was chased up by receptionist to book an appointment and discuss about my treatment only to find out that my appointment no longer stands because I left. Thanks for wasting my time TDLR Terrible surgery save yourself time and go somewhere else
If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have tried to register at least 3 times since September, and each time, it has not been processed. Its now March. I was told to go in and following out a paper form, but I have no confidence that they won't just lose the form. I have ongoing health issues and their incompetence is honestly shocking. I'm not sure how it is possible for this place to be operating with such rude reception staff either. I am now at a point where I've registered at a doctors surgery in my home town 4 hours away, because I would rather make a 9 hour round trip for a blood test than deal with anyone at this student health centre. An absolute joke of a medical centre, not worth the stress. If you have the option to register elsewhere, I'd recommend doing so.
There was a mistake with my hospital referral which caused a delay in my surgery. Whilst this has been sorted now, it has delayed my treatment and caused a severe disruption. It is often difficult to get an appointment as GPs don’t call at the time of appointment and often claim they have called you when they haven’t. There was an issue with the reception team and they told me I had a phone appointment in the morning but was never called, so when I chased this up the receptionist Maya let me know this wasn’t arranged. However, Maya was incredibly kind, patient and arranged an appointment and for my prescription to be sent to the pharmacy since there had been a delay in this also. I will note that whilst Maya is a great receptionist that the rest of the reception team can be quite rude. Additionally, GPs have not been thorough as I have been going to the GP for the same issues numerous times and they had not looked at my history to correctly diagnose me or send me to the correct professional early enough. I am after 4 years finally having a surgery for diagnosis but this is no thanks to the GPs who messed up my referrals and took years to refer me only when I essentially begged. If you can, I recommend you go to a different GP.
If I could rate zero I would. If you are a student with any long standing or chronic illness that requires regular repeat medication DO NOT register here. This practice makes a habit of leaving high risk patients with long term mental illnesses un medicated for periods going into months. They have no urgency or understanding for students medication and medical needs. They are deeply unhelpful and unsympathetic and even with new illnesses they are abismal at tending to any medical needs and give you the feeling that your presence is of great inconvenience to them
Awful service of only using AskMyGP to book appointments. There is a mad dash from everyone at 8am to use it so the server always goes down, by the time it goes back up all appointments are booked up for the day. By 8:30 all appointments have been taken. And if you try to ring reception about this issue, the line automatically hangs up and tells you to try again later. Absolutely terrible service when you have ongoing health issues and need appointments quite often. So disappointing. If it’s within the catchment area, just stick with your home GP.
I called there on a Thursday requesting an urgent prescription as I've ran out of mine. The side effects of suddenly stopping this medication are strong so I needed urgent help. On Thursday, I was told I'd be able to pick the medication up on Friday. On Thursday evening I got a text from a doctor there, saying I needed to come in before I get the prescription standard procedure but I got this text after the practice closed so I had to wait until Friday to make an appointment. I call them on Friday morning asking for an appointment and explaining the urgency of my sistuation, I was told by the receptionist that they'd try and request a prescription again, with the agreement that if come see a doctor on Monday. I didn't hear back from them afterwards so I called again later on Friday, asking for an update. The lady at the phone wasn't able to tell me if the prescription had gone through but promised to follow up and call me about it. I never heard back. On Sunday my withdrawal symptoms were so bad that I had to go to a&e, where I got the news that they HAD issued a prescription which is why the pharmacy at a&e wasn't able to give me any emergency medication. I was left to believe that my prescription hadn't been issued because I never heard back from the receptionist or doctor, just to suffer all weekend and find out from the hospital that it had been issued. I am devastated as I am starting a new job on Monday which is incredibly important to me and which I'm going to have to start while suffering from withdrawal symptoms. Thank you student health center, you really let me down.
I’ve actually never even been treated by anyone in this clinic because out of the 8 times I’ve gone to them for help with physical health issues, minor or major, the receptionists have always referred me straight to the hospital without even attempting to help me in the clinic. I’ve spent long hours waiting to be seen in a&e with issues that could have been solved in minutes had I received the care that this practice is supposed to provide. On top of this, the receptionists are incredibly rude and condescending, and I’ve never been taken seriously by them. They’re closed when they’re not supposed to be and they will do absolutely anything to get out of doing their job. It’s ridiculous to the point where I don’t even understand their purpose, as they refuse to help students in need and lazily pass them onto someone else. This is especially concerning for students who have moved out of home for the first time seeking medical support.
Normally, the receptionists are miserable and really really rude. But every time I am helped by Paula Whysall, they always go the extra mile and show sympathy for my situation. I have had so many medication mishaps here and the GPs always seem too rushed to take you seriously, but I feel very confident when being helped by Paula. We need more staff like her!
