Would give it 5 stars for the variety of eco foods and products, however the prices are kind of high. Nice cafe and good coffee, good selection of beers and wines, dry goods, fruit and veg, toiletries, health supplements etc, bike parking outside.
Large ethical grocers/deli with café. This was the first Better Food in Bristol. I do all my regular shopping at Better Food on Gaol Ferry Steps and I rarely need to go anywhere else.
The coffee’s good for people like me - nice oat flatte - and if you don’t get there too early they’ve got those wonderful vegan pastries that they sell down the road too. Sadly if you go on the way to work you’re not likely to get one. Discrimination? The most serious issues start when go back into the actual shop and buy a thing of some kind. The prices are confusing, making you think you must have misunderstood how shops work and that it’s actually all fine. Lidl doesn’t exist in this universe, it’s parallel, and Aldi and even Tesco are there too. You are here and all you have is now and the shelves in front of you. Five pounds is reasonable for some sauce. A pepper could set you back a couple quid. When you get to the till, they usually smile, and act like they’re not guilty of a gross affront to your dignity and wellbeing. They only work there I suppose. But when the transaction goes through, it’s like someone’s kicked you lightly - but hard enough to feel it - in the testes, and you’ve just seen your ex walking hand in hand and smiling with a good friend of yours who you haven’t seen for a few months. But it’s OK, cos now you have a thing that you can eat, probably more quickly than intended, before you come back again two days later on the way home from work. 10/10 would recommend
Really delicious food. OK it's a little expensive but I feel its worth the price. Healthy and a lovely selection to choose from. I would absolutely recommend giving it a try.
Very expensive considering it sells essentially the same stuff as the cornershop on Old Ashley Hill round the corner for half the price. I once bought a yellow pepper at Better Food and it cost me over £3 when I looked at the receipt! It wasn't a big pepper either!! I have also heard they pay their staff minimum wage? The ambience and decor is quite nice though, I think that's why some people still go there.
Awesome food. Vegan breakfast rocks. Great service and coffee. Prob with my order the second time I came here - had to wait a bit and they refunded it without me even asking. Beautiful ppl! Highly recommend
This is the first time I've used the Better Food cafe and although on walking in I was warmly greeted I'm afraid everything from that point on was downhill. After giving my order of a simple Americano I sat down. My table wasn't clean ie hadn't been wiped, had used crockery on as did the next table and the one opposite. My coffee arrived without side milk as ordered, after 10 minutes, there we only 3 people in the entire cafe including myself. I could have left but I was meeting a friend so remained, the cafe never got busy but the service was incredible slow and I never saw a table cleared or cleaned during my 2 hours there. A great shame.
Best coffee and yummy cakes. Lovely shop for Christmas gifts too.
All of the staff are 10/10 in terms of friendliness and customer service. Imran in 11/10. Everytime I see him he's got such a great attitude which I always take away with me. Cracks me up with his jokes. Food is also just perfect for my dietary requirements
Love Better Foods. It has better foods and a soothing vibe. The meat is very good value considering its high quality especially if you buy cheap cuts & keep an eye out for near end date bargains. Some things are too overpriced eg bamboo toothbrushes are 3x the price they are in Home Bargains but if you choose wisely Better Foods can be good value. It's better for the world. I wish they could get the cafe up to its potential
