The place holds such promise and I really want to give a better review, but I just can’t. Let’s start with the good, the menu is a decent size for a tea room with plenty of options and food served was tasty, cakes have always been a staple, toasties are of a good sizing with a side salad to fill you. Prompt service was a bonus. Now for the bad, the mess, not a single table outside was cleared, leaving rubbish being blown everywhere, spills, crumbs, leftovers all over the place, and with the bins overflowing with dog waste, the place left a lot to be desired. Especially in the current climate where cleanliness is very important, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. If you managed to stomach the mess of outside, you did get a warm, clean place to eat, but as dogs are a no go, this is not a pleasant venue for the hound hikers landing midway through a walk. Suffice to say, across the court was clean and busy and will be the first stop on the next round trip. Food was good, service not so much.
I had not been to Staunton Harold in 27 years, since it was a hospice. Myself, brother and my own children went to look around. We decided to get a coffee and a cake but noticed how nice the food looked too so we had lunch there. We were not disappointed. The food was fresh and the portions were huge. The food was beautiful. It was very busy so getting a table was hard and we had to come back after our walk this wasn't an issue. There were tables also outside. It was clean and the staff were happy, friendly, helpful and polite. We were asked multiple times if there were any allergies etc which was nice. The service was quick which was good as the children were hungry. The milkshakes were tasty and got the approval of both children. My brother was impressed with his coffee. My tea for 1 served me with 3 cups in total. The jacket potato did not have melted cheese but once you mixed it in, it was a fabulous 2 cheese jacket which was very tasty and filling. The bacon and egg sandwich was colossal, it was thoroughly enjoyed. The egg and chorizo dish I had was lovely also and very filling. It was worth every penny. The puddings were delicious. We have decided we shall return and try the breakfast menu next time in the near future. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Kid-friendliness: Children and dogs were welcome. Dogs are allowed outside I think not inside. There were plenty of seats outside. Parking: Parking was easy and reasonably priced. Dietary restrictions: We were asked multiple times about this which I thought was good.
Always enjoy the food and coffee here. Lovely setting with tables set out well without feeling crowded. Outside seating available in courtyard too so ideal for those with dogs. I have the mezzi this time which was good and I always enjoy the cappuccino. Service is always good too. Kid-friendliness: Small menu but reasonably priced and presented.
I completely understand that it’s the festive period, New Year’s bank holiday, very busy today. Ordered 3 slices of cake that were already baked and 3 hot chocolates. All to take away. Never payed attention what I payed for. Half an hour later people that ordered ahead of me were having their hot cobs and sandwiches and meals served already. I walked in to ask what is going on to be told to wait another 5 minutes. For 3 slices of cake to be put in a box? Absolutely disgusting. And on top of that I was brought back only one hot chocolate not 3. And it wasn’t to take away either. The girl at the till never payed attention when I asked for 3 hot chocolates , not one. When I said I have been waiting for half an hour and I have to go as my baby is crying I was told well that was your order. Never again will walk in this coffee shop.
We used to visit years ago and stopped going as the service was poor and staff did not make you feel welcome at all and atmosphere lacking. Well what a change! The new owners Charlotte and Will have brought the place bang up to date and there is a really nice ambiance to the place with lovely decor and great relaxing music. The food wasn't too shabby either! I am coeliac and my full English was very easily tweaked and the cappuccino great. Definitely will become a regular place for us. Thank you
Have visited multiple times now and always had a great experience. Food is amazing and their coffee is beautiful, so much nicer than the big chains. Staff are always friendly and accommodating and it’s even better that it all gets delivered to your table so you can sit back down and carry on your conversation! Have recommended to all my friends and family and they agree that it’s spot on!
We were semi-regular at The Stables before Covid, but hadn’t been back since as we’d heard it had changed hands. This was a MISTAKE. If anything it’s better now than it was before! Amazing toasties, great coffee, and a smart new refit. Highly recommended!
Terrifically welcoming, helpful staff, very kindly took a food order even after we arrived about ten minutes after the stated time they stop taking lunch orders. Offered substitute items for those that were unavailable. Even had a fantastic gluten-free and dairy-free cake a very good chocolate brownie, for the person with allergies in our party - not something you find available in many places. Highly recommended! Vegetarian options: A decent range available. Dietary restrictions: There were vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available, all very good.
Came to visit with my parents and 4 year old daughter, very friendly staff and made the experience very welcoming for us all. Lovely food and relaxing environment. Will visit again soon : thank you Kid-friendliness: Happy to provide something for my little girl that wasn’t on the menu so thank you v.much
