Really friendly staff and the food and service was excellent. Our Dog recommends it too with fresh water and bowls provided in the large garden. A* . Great place to stop on the way back from the south.
Had a birthday meal there over the weekend. Treated like royalty. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
Wonderful experience. We came here for a BritStop. James, the landlord, was an incredibly kind host. Great beers and fantastic curry. The in itself is very nice inside and had a very nice beergarden with little heated huts. Dog friendly.
Great outdoor area, dog friendly and good atmosphere. We had topside roast and we were disappointed with the vegetables and no horseradish sauce good wine at £15 per bottle.
We went for a family meal while on holiday close by. I ordered a mushroom pie. It looked very pale on serving, and had not be browned off in the oven. Once I cut into it, I could see it wasn't cooked through properly and the pastry was still raw and doughy. I informed the waiting staff and they said they would get another one for me, but that I'd need to wait 12 minutes for another one. My family all ate their meal while I waited. Once my meal was out, they had all finished eating. Unfortunately, the second pie they bought to me was also not cooked properly. The pasty was again inedible as was raw. I picked out the filling and told the waiting staff. We asked for the bill, and were disappointed to see that we had been charged for an item of food that I wasn't able to eat properly. I told the waiting staff that I wasn't happy to pay for it, seeing as I couldn't eat it all, and they said they would speak to management. The manager came out and said that they wouldn't be taking the meal off the bill, as they would be loosing out if they did. I explained that as much as I appreciated that, I was going to be leaving the pub feeling hungry as I hadn't been able to eat a meal. I felt that the manager was rude, did not put the customer first, was not apologetic and made me pay for a meal that I wasn't able to eat. Appalling. I wasn't offered a complimentary drink while waiting, or anything to make me feel like I was welcomed. Although my families meals were good, I would not recommend this pub. The rude and unaccommodating management was terrible, a severe lack of customer service which could have been very easily rectified.
The food was very tasty and good value for money. The Landlord was very friendly and the beer garden sheltered but plenty of sunshine. Well worth a visit.
A really great place to spend the evening. Owners and staff very friendly, the food was good and will visit again for sure. Thanks to everyone, including the locals who invited us to join them by the log fire. See you soon. Chris and Carla.
First visit to The Star and it won't be our last. Very welcoming and comfortable, Jail Ale on tap, a fabulous local Dartmoor beer, and good pub classics on the menu. James and Heidi are doing a great job as landlords. Looking forward to our next visit already.
Delicious roast - fresh & plentiful with all the trimmings. Great service and great atmosphere. First time visitors but will definitely be back!
Visited yesterday for a prebooked Mothering Sunday Lunch. Organisation and timing was brilliant , food was good and staff were very attentive and friendly . Will no doubt be returning.
