Very disappointed in the quality of the food received. Ordered directly online on a Saturday evening and food was delivered in just over 10 mins or ordering. Speedy service is fine, but that surely must mean that the majority of the food was not cooked to order and just reheated. The food was very oily, bland and not appitising at all. Dim-Sum - Prawn Toast - Overcooked and soaked in oil; Chicken Skewers - OK tast apart from the center of one was still pink/raw; Spring Rolls - local supermarket ones taste better also oily. Crispy Shredded Beef - Bit of a misnomer as it wasn't crispy at all after being drenched in flavourless Day-Glo red/orange sweet and sour sauce. Moderate heat, but broadly tasteless and chewy. Sweet & Sour Chicken - Canontese Style - As above, coated formerly crispy chicken drenched in the aforementioned S & S sauce. Flavourless and chewy too. Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls - Chicken itself inside was ok, moist and not too bad. Shame about the oil soaked coating on the outside as well as the S & S sauce. Plain Chow Mein noodles - Served with the usual beansprouts and onions. However it was flavourless, light in colour and greasy. Egg Fried Rice - Ok, but nothing special. Overall a very disappointed customer with a hungry family still to feed. The general feeling of the meal was very unappetising, flavourless layers of oil competing the the processed Day-Glo sweet & sour sauce. Will not be ordering again and there are other restaurants in the area, that although are not perfect, are a definate improvement on Star Anise.
Disgusting. Meat was raw, chips had been mocrowaved, crispy beef was pure batter and soft and everything was cold. As well as this it took an hour and 20 minutes to deliver then when I phone up the lady put the phone down on me. Do not order from here, they’ll be out of business soon. Glad I didn’t eat it I would have been seriously ill.
This is by far the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. Pre ordered my food and when I picked it up, the lady behind the counter had absolutely no clue about customer service. No eye contact, no thank you and just a transaction. Once I brought the food home, I was shocked by what they classified as edible. The Thai red curry had chicken pieces swimming in cloudy water minus anything else. The crackers were burnt along with the fried chicken balls. I didn't finish my 'food' and I will be taking this rubbish back for a refund. DON'T eat here!! You're better off going to Sainsburys for a Chinese takeaway.
Ordered food years ago and was not happy with the quality . However we have started ordering again over the last few months . The food has been great, so we now use it as our main Chinese. The only problem I find the spareribs aren’t the best .
Absolutely disgusting food thought we would try somewhere new and what a disappointment it was! Such poor quality. Don’t waste your money there is much nicer places to eat then this !
The vegetable fried rice was grey, and shimmering with grease. The entrance door to the takeaway had it's lock bound in brown packing tape. Very mysterious...
I've just seen the poor reviews, but I really like this takeaway and I am Very fussy about Chinese food. I am very happy with this place, it's my local Chinese and I would recommend it.
Had always been faithful to the 'other' Chinese locally but when they were closed I tried here and will definitely use them again! Very, very good.....
My daughter loves the food from here always good likes the plain beef noodles no veg onions also fried chicken and loves the bbq sauce
Curry used to be ok but now to salty and chips not fresh, sent msge to them but not answered, would not recommend. won't go again..
