St. Swithin's Church, Compton Bassett is an beautiful Georgian church overlooking rolling countryside and is a grade I listed building. It is as an architectural monument and record of Compton Bassett's history and development. It has stood proudly for many centuries and has a particularly stunning and historic 15th century ornately carved rood screen depicting the twelve apostles, notable remains of the original medieval decorative wall painting and a very fine peal of six church bells, the earliest dating from 1420. The church is open every day as a special place of tranquility, reflection and heritage and is definitely worth a visit.
A quaint old English church, I wonder if they'd let me climb the tower?
Delightful church hidden away in the charming village of Compton Bassett steeped in history.
