A few great teachers here like Mr McGonigle, Mrs Denvir, Mr Devine and the Harte bros to name a few.... I will always remember those teachers.. But if you are in any way different to the norm you will not be appreciated in this school by both students and teachers alike, generally speaking. At A-Level all they care about is University while failing to realise that not everyone wants to go there and if that is not your goal then McAlary wants nothing to do with you. They need to get with the times and equip students with the information they need to know when they leave school whether of not the attend university. Also, if you are more of an artist than a sportsperson your talents will not be appreciated the same way they would be if you were on a sports team. The biggest lesson I learned at the school was not to send my kids to an all male/female school.
I went here in the late 80's when it was a miserable repressive dump. My overall memories are of getting endlessly finger poked in tender areas by creeps frustrated by the new anti-strapping laws. I suppose it has changed as most things in NI have, still I've only got those experiences to go on. Hence 1 star & they won't be getting near my children, I'd rather home-school.
I finished a couple of years ago! Wasn't great to be honest, far too conservative and rearward looking. The whole world is rapidly changing, no pont digging your heels in, not everyone wants to be an accountant or a solicitor ffs!
made me want to kms :c
