St Mary The Virgin

About

We're a welcoming Church situated in Monkseaton, Whitley Bay. Here to serve the community

Story

We're a lively church, open and welcoming, with a variety of worship traditions. Our current theme is 'Making Christ known through Building His Church'. We shall be using our church hall for worship throughout June, July and August 2015 whilst the interior of the church is refurbished. The new interior will be a wonderful and versatile worship space but able to be used for other community events such as concerts and exhibitions.

Friendly church and a nice brownie pack for my daughter. One tiny bugbear is that the back entrance by the car park is pitch black. I collect my daughter at 7:15pm so it's dark for a lot of the year and it can be wet, slippy and the lack of light makes this a hazard. The photos look like there are lights on the church but these are never on. Maybe sensor lights are neede?
We went to a candlelit carol service on Sunday night, December 23. It was one of the best we’ve ever been to Ian the atheist who sings in a church choir and me. A mixture of traditional carols and Gospel readings with some lovely modern anthems, readings and poems. Not a word or a note wasted. Afterwards, a generous sharing of mulled wine, mince pies and conversation, and even an old friend - Peter Dunlop - to catch up with after 30-plus years. A perfect start to our Christmas festivities. Thank you to one and all. Oh - and the refurbishment is lovely.
Attended a meeting, a good place to have a venue.
