My Sister Su and I, James Johnson, travelled from Melbourne Australia and visited back in 2012 in search of our maternal grandmothers ancestral home and birthplace, we were fortunate to discover the resting places graves of James Webb and Elizabeth Webb née Mitchell within the hallowed church grounds. They along with other family members are buried within the church grounds. My grandmother, Emily Louise Hill née Webb worked as a live-in housemaid/cleaner at the local Chemist shop in the village square at St Neots. was one of 14 children born to James and Elizabeth Webb. One female stillborn I’m informed by my Mother, Valerie Denise Johnson née Hill that there were 9 Webb brothers and 4 sisters in total. They were formally members of the local community and residents of ‘Rose Cottages’ which is a mere ‘stone’s throw away from the church grounds. The cenotaph that has been erected to the left of the entrance pathway bears the names of Edward Webb and Arthur Webb respectively among those that gave all for King and Country in the First World War of 1914-1918. Unfortunately we were unable to locate the relevant guardians to allow us access to the confines of the church so that we may spend some time for reflection and absorb the history into our minds and hearts. However, the existence of our presence within the church grounds allowed us some closure that we made a final pilgrimage and discovered our maternal heritage. Warmest Regards James E. Johnson Jim
