Looked to ordering our usual tonight from here but once I got to the checkout and saw the price I cancelled the order. So far in less than a year, the price has gone from £24 to £28 to now £31.70. I know prices have gone up, so has the cost of living too but seriously that's a ridiculous price for a meal for two people now more so for a takeaway. £7.45 to now £8.55 for a Kurma and £7.95 to now £9.15 for Tikka Massala and £2.95 to now £3.35 for Pilau Rice...plus not only has the prices gone up, the dishes they came in are HALF the size now, so your getting LESS for your money and it's MORE expensive...absolutely shocking. Shame, as we loved the food from there but WON'T be ordering again, ever...not at those prices.
Great Indian food of high quality and taste also was hot. Best I have had in Plymouth since moved here from the South East.Food: 5/5
Order mixed starter and no salad or mint sauce with it, after calling them told he couldn't get any iceberg lettuce.... surely he should of mentioned this on ordering and Where's my mint sauce... Now looking for another Indian unacceptable tbh and was a regular customer
Our usual indian, well no more! Ordered from my previous orders tonight, expecting a chicken tikka masala and got tandoori chicken. Rang and spoke to an indian lady who was insistent I had ordered the tandoori, no help, no offer of exchange or refund. So cooked a ready meal curry to go with mine, then bit into the onion bhaji which was raw, undercooked and full of bits i've never seen before. Looking for a new indian as we speak.
I was looking for a new regular Indian in which I would use always. I thought I had when I used them previously! I was disappointed when I receive my order. No flavour, it was cold and pretty much just horrible!!!! Even my dog turn up her nose!!!! Will NEVER use this please again!! Also it wasn't a cheep order!!!! Such a disaster!!!!
Consistently brilliant! We've ordered a few times now since the new 5 star food hygiene rating in the summer and every time the food has tasted incredible. The name 'Spice Merchant' seems so appropriate given the amazing flavours each dish has as a result of the spices used, rather than them just throwing lots of sugar and salt at the dishes to get flavour like most places do. My favourite dish has to be the king prawn bhuna! I've tried a lot of Indian takeaways in Plymouth and the South West possibly too many, and this place is by far my favourite. Another small touch I like is that everything doesn't seem as artificial as some places. I find it really off-putting when the mint yoghurt looks more like nuclear waste because it is so green, and the other dishes are also bright colours, whereas here, it seems as though it's only the spices used that give the dishes their colour. Nothing ever seems to be swimming in oil either unlike some places. The only negative I can think of is that the chicken tikka starter is sometimes a little dry, even though the flavour makes up for it. I wonder if the chicken is at least partially pre-cooked because the food is always ready really fast. Nonetheless, we'll definitely be back many more times!
Terrible Customer Service: Visited Spice Merchant in person and ordered take away. Got home and found my main dish was missing. Girlfriend called the Indian and said I would have to drive back and pay for it. No offer of discount on dish due to their mistake. My dish wasn’t even registered on their till so they didn’t write it down when I ordered. Will go to Nibana in future.
Delicious food that is excellent value for money :
The best tasting and most consistent curry we've had in Plymouth, and have been using them for 7 years now. Highly recommended and comparatively a great price too!
I ordered the food from this place twice now. First time we ordered through the just eat , food was ok but they messed up the order by not giving the rice and charging us for 2 of milk rice too. today I ordered the food at 7.10 to be delivered 8.10pm and first they asked was the postcode and confirmed it as my address. But she write down the incorrect address. Instead of road she write it as street. they delivered the food at 9.20pm. I have phone twice to ask where the food was she never said once its going to be this late but said driver on his way. never apologised for her mistake but was rude and keep saying its out of my control. We have lost our appertie by waiting for this. so i decide to ask for a refund at about 8.50pm cancelling the food, she said she will not refund the money. Really bad customer service.
