Finally get to explore this beautiful Anglican cathedral and with Gaia exhibition on. What a delight! I would love to go back for a concert and explore the old medieval architecture more. Parts of the cathedral was fenced off for Gaia.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Southwark Cathedral is an unimposing gem just off Borough Market and very close to London Bridge station. It is a privilege to step inside, not only because it holds the honour of being the oldest church building in London but the architecture is simply breathtaking. We went specifically to view Luke Jerram's Gaia installation and it was perfectly and beautifully suspended between the gothic arches of the cathedral nave. The visual impact is astonishing. Visitor numbers were well managed to allow people to have space to contemplate peacefully and prayerfully how precious our world is and how tiny we are in comparison. Beautiful photo opportunities to dance beneath the Earth as it hovers and slowly spins above...it inspires joyfulness and contemplation, movement and stillness, love and creativity. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling very grateful for the moment to step away from the mayhem of life where the only expectation was to look up and around. The cathedral is steeped in history, without or without the art installation, there is a treasure trove of artistic masterpieces...from the intricate stone carvings to the soaring arches and the beautiful stained glass windows. I can't wait to go back and explore more of it!
There is no cost to enter. Not busy on this Tuesday morning. What a beautiful building. It's amazing to see how intricate the build and construction was done so many years ago. Catholic or not, this is a must-see.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Beautiful cathedral and no charge for admission. There is a kiosk to donate in the back of the church. Magnificent architecture! Didn't forget to look for Hodge, the cathedral cat! Neat gift shop too for souvenirs.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

Really enjoyed spending time in Southwark Cathedral. It’s a stunning building with a peaceful space and large nave. Everything you’d expect to see in a cathedral is here - nave, candles, common worship books, stained glass, ornate pews, quiet contemplation and huge entrance is here. I really enjoyed hanging out in the garden with Shakespeare and the little herb garden. There is no cost but you can make a donation and get a guide book in return. Afterwards enjoy a drink and snacks in the courtyard cafe near the entrance!
Attended a Sunday Service. The only downside is the extreme use of incense. Smoke allergies.. There was a cloud in the sanctuary after the service. Beautiful edifice and worth a visit.
Free to visit Not too busy we went on a Tuesday Lots of interesting history to read about. Cool mini display at the entrance of historical things found in the Thames. Really cool place, recommend
In the sacred halls of Southwark Cathedral, an illuminated Earth floats, suspended in the stillness of gothic arches. The serene glow transforms the ancient stone, as if the world itself is cradled by timeless hands. This somewhat unique experience is time limited... hence make your move.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
The Earth museum, fabulous display in the middle of cathedral. I get shock when I saw the big Earth. So real. I cannot put away my sight out of the Earth. £5 is worth to visit.
