I've had a mainly brilliant experience coming to this college to do my access to higher education course. Everyone on the course had a an issue with one teacher but this was rectified by the college. Everything else has been great and the other teachers were fantastic.
Excellent College,Everyone So Helpful - Especially If You Are Lost & Trying To Find Your Room For Lessons,Show You In The Right Direction,Great Facilities From A Multi Gym To A Cafe,A Really Relax,But At The Same Time Atmosphere - Constantly Busy With Various Classes Going On - Suitable For All Needs & Levels,Great Place To Level.
Popped in today to find preparations for students returning well under way. The place is gleaming thanks to the hard work of the cleaning staff. Premises officers have done an amazing job marking out 2 metre distances and ensuring classrooms only accommodate enough students so everyone is safe. Lots of new non-touch hand sanitisers supplementing the existing ones too. A super job from everyone involved.
It a friendly place at times I studied here for 2 years and really enjoyed it the library was my favourite place to go, the cafeteria is a bit over priced for some of their food but it's pretty good food. When I went here for the 2 years doing 2 different courses I had a lot of fun doing my work experience, and with the staff that was working there at the time. There is trips planned through the year if you want to go my year went to Alton towers after our exams which was great. I also did the NCS challenge through this collage during an open day they had on with a few of my friend and we all loved it, there was something always happening within the college by either the staff or the students whether it was charity fund raisers or open day it's a nice college and I really enjoyed going there.
I studied B tech Media at level 3 and HNC. Level 3 was ok but disappointing how the teachers don't take your own time into consideration while on the course encouraging students to quit their jobs as well as sell their cars. One Unit was a complete waste of time as it lead up to a public expedition that collapsed and the teacher running it made a false claim that it fell on her and I was a witness to it not happening I was literally 5 meters away looking at her and it completely missed her as well as several other students so when the paramedics did turn up they knew there wasn't anything wrong with her but she still managed to have at least a month off while the students were left to scrounge anything the teacher had left behind to finish the unit and all of the other teachers had to help out as well because we were pretty much left for dead then when she did return she lied about having memory loss and completely disregarded anything to do with that unit. Then the maintenance staff wouldn't allow us back into the area when it had already fallen down for us to get basic things such as costumes for our other productions and they had a go at us afterwards the had to oversee the "accident" they approached me about mine and several other students who witnessed the exhibition not falling on the teacher they disregarded anything I said and din't take my opinion into consideration even when I said I'd be willing to testify it. Another teacher wouldn't let us actually get on with our work because she was too busy talking then when work was supposed to hand work in she got annoyed at us for it being late. The next year came and while I continued my studies of media at a HNC level all but two of my teachers refused to even say hello to me while passing them in the hallway which seemed very rude and unprofessional. Then one of the tutor missed a total of 22 sessions they were supposed to teach without any warning or email/notification to the students which was a huge waste of time and money especially since I had to pay £6000 just to get onto the course and they never arranged cover for that teacher so the day was wasted, because of this I am going to be emailing the college an external sources to get a full refund. It seemed that the higher the level you are in education here the less they seem to care abut you. Another issue the collage has is the cafeteria I work as a barista myself in a globally recognised coffee shop and the one at college was awful. The food was terrible especially the pasta the tasted disgusting and all the cookies were stale and sold out of them but never replaced any food after 12 o'clock so if you needed food you would have to shop nearby which turned out to be a lot cheaper as well. A student I knew had their purse stolen form them and the college didn't look into it after they said the CCTV wasn't facing the room and the student wasn't refunded. This student also was bullied as well as her teacher by 3 student and they even made the teacher cry and no one even intervened. A further issue is the car park where the barriers keep on breaking or the ticket machine does so you waste money on it and it's £1 per visit but surely if you have your student ID with you it should be free. The toilets are vile and its no wonder because I have found food in the strangest places such as behind a wall clock or on top of a sign so they don't clean thoroughly. I feel the college is definitely below average. At this point I've now put more into this review than my actual course work because I'm at lest motivated to stop other people wasting their time. TL:DR DO NOT ATTEND THIS COLLEGE!
As an adult learner I was initially worried but I needn't have been. The tutors in particularly Sharon evans and Louise Khan have been incredibly supportive and knowledgeable in their subjects. Both tutors are a credit to the college. The library boasts an array of reading material with access to a wide range of both academic and fiction books. The college has great facilities with an abundance of computers readily available for student use. The cafeteria and on site Costa coffee is a great addition. I would highly recommend this campus.
My daughters doing a two year course and we have found the college to be good academically frirndly staff and my daughter loves her group and doing very well i give 5 *** and would highly recommend
Yeah its a pretty good college actually. Beverages and refreshments can be paid at any price using card where as Leicester colleges charge you £3 for anything you buy so i just used cash The course is going really well havent started properly but hopefully itll be great but the college is really good and the staff offered me a place here two : So if you wanted you could start with 3 units and carry on with another 3 units the year after or if they feel youre capable of doing all those units they'll put you for all 3 units to get to level 3 but really i have no idea if there's a guarantee yet but theres absolutely no rush. The only downfall ive got is i need to pass my maths and English and hope this time i will pass and the teachers are so much better even though i havent met them yet. because one of my friends was called a name from.a teacher for revising in his lessons and making notes and thats what i need so i understand because of my learning disabilities. Also, i dont mind how many people are in each group but they did say that they do intend to split the group every now and then which is good because we could meet eachother but i need to get to know the group of people in the other group to get to know them better and hopefully this could be possible but first i need to concentrate on whats best. Other than that i think this is.gonna be a good college sorry my review is so ealry sue
Mixed review, do what you will with the information. I've been here for 5 years still am until May I started on BTEC Level 2 Media and have worked my way to HND Level 5. When I first started the whole experience was fantastic! Tutors were great! I got involved in the Student Union, played a huge part for the college. So it's great how you can get so many opportunities and that you can work your way up to the top from knowing nothing. But... During this time the college has rapidly gone down hill, a very steep one at that! We'd had in assignments on time to be marked to then have to wait over a month for a response to which then it wouldn't be sufficient enough to make improvements. Certain tutors drift away from actually lecturing the subject to something completely irrelevant to our learning. Certain staff speak to you like you are a piece of trash on the floor, some have no respect for students, especially those who like myself have been here for 5 years. Not only that but the media rooms as you'd imagine are specifically designed for media students as the computers in said rooms are the only ones fast enough to run out softwares...but, towards the end of the academic year most crucial time to get in assignments the media rooms are closed off for exams for COMPLETELY DIFFERNT SUBJECTS! Such as, H&S, childcare, maths, English. They aren't even using the computers! And when approached about why they are using the rooms, I get the reply "it's nothing to do with you, please find else where." Such a charming response from someone who is suppose to be a tutor/mentor to many students. Without boring you anymore I'll get to my main point; If you are planning to come here for just one year, then it's great! But any longer than one year and I very strongly suggest you find else where! If it means paying more then do it for your own future! I cannot stress this enough! They are pushing me to do Level 6 Media after false advertising Level 5 Media to me. So I'm leaving at the end of May. I won't even be attending my graduation as I've heard that is a huge disappointment from previous students. Do with this information as you please. But you can't say you were not warned. Good luck!
The level 3 Media team at South Leicestershire College are absolutely fantastic and go beyond just caring for your education. Harvey, Ann, Sue, Amy and others are brilliant tutors who inspire kids and I’d do anything to go back and do another two years all over again.
