A must see if you’re in Buxton! We didn’t plan to visit, but we were sat at a pub in town and could see the tower in the distance. We parked in the centre of Buxton and the round walk was just under 3 miles. You walk through town, through a housing estate and then up the hill to the tower. We took a picnic and ate at the top, stunning views over Buxton. The tower allows you to see even further across the Peaks.
Quite unique and interesting object, and place itself to visit. You can explore the tower in couple of minute's since its small tower, but it's worth to see it especially when you climb on the top of the tower to see some scenic view's. It's quite tricky to find a official public footpath route to the tower since there is not much parking places for the car. I only able to find the correct foopath from the - "temple fields" place, cross a football field and climb on top of the hill to find the tower....
Car park at Poole Cavern is from £2-£3 depending on the length of time your wanting to stay. There are multiple paths marked out that meet up at Solomons Temple. We took the yellow one whilst was a mixture of stairs and slope, which I don't recommend for wheelchair/prams. You then reach a sty into the field where the temple is. If your OK with heights you can climb up the stairs and enjoy the view, if it's a clear day. Unfortunately I'm scared of heights so getting up is OK but the steps down ... no so good. Along The path are wooden carvings to look at. You can see some of the GoApe course whilst walking though the wood area. I do recommend nipping into Poole Cavern for their cafe. The food and drinks are yummy and the staff are very welcoming.
Nice little random temple to go and have a look at. Free parking next to the caravan park and a steady walk up to it. Pretty steep steps inside to reach the top but a good view from there.
Nice manageable walk with the kids on a very misty day. Started from Poole's cavern and we walked through the woods, looking at the wooden sculptures. The Temple was shrouded in mist but I have been here before and you do get great views. Though today it looked quite spooky. From start to finish, about a hours hilly jomp.
Walked up from Poole’s Cavern car park, just over half a mile up to the temple from there. First up a flight of steps up to the upper level of Grin Low wood, then continuing up on paths to the temple itself. You can go up the temple, it isn’t locked & there is a spiral staircase within it. Decent views from the top of the Buxton area.
A nice walk through a forest brings you here to the temple. It's around half an hour to get there although uphill. It's not a complete day out, as there's nothing else up there really, just literally a view. Still worth a visit through. Postcode SK17 9DH takes you to pooles cavern car park, go ape entrance which is all in the same car park which is the one you'll need. Parking can be paid for by cash or card.. Toilets and cafe available. The paths up to the temple are ok, a bit muddy and leafy, so no good for buggies, but dogs and children ok. Plenty of views at the top once you reach the temple. You can even walk up the stairs within the temple for a 360 view, which on a clear day is quite spectacular. Very busy place especially at the weekends. Dogs are free to roam off lead, as no livestock about. Children off lead ok too....
A very good spot to walk and hike from the main Buxton town centre, only about two miles; not a grueling climb upto the top. You can climb the spiral staircase of the temple and get a great view of the surrounding woods and Buxton. One can enjoy the surrounding natural beauty walking around the place.
Great place to visit. Three trails lead up to Solomons Temple from the car park at Pooles Cavern. Parking cost from £2 for 4 hours. Good place to bring children and or dogs.
We visited as part of a lovely dog walk up from Buxton and a gentle stroll back down again via Poole's Cavern to make a circular route. Beautiful, panoramic views from the top, well worth the walk uphill, we loved it and the dog loved it.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
