This place doesn’t take reservations so best to avoid peak hours. We went on a Thursday evening 7pm and could get 2 seats by the window. I believe menu changes time to time. For the ones we ordered - the Mama Tom yum soup was lacking some base. The combination of noodle, mussels and meat did not pair well. The fried chicken and fried egg rice noodle + lardo tasted amazing and goes well with Jasmine rice. The minced pork dish tasted good but can be a bit too much. Best to have it with Jasmine rice as well. Drinks were ok, ordinary.
Went here for my graduation dinner. Slightly disappointed with the pork belly portion size, probably cause it was around dinner time we went at 1730. Very soft pork belly. Mutton First pic was delicious with a little kick to it. Ps Don’t sit at the table by the door. It wobbles quite a bit.
staff was very friendly and helpful. i didn’t eat but my friend did. but he would stop raving about how much he LOVED the food. he said i had to write on google maps: come here and order anything, you won’t regret it!! the place was busy we didn’t wait long to be sat and the food came quickly. dope spot. thanks!
Always coming back for the Moo Hong Braised Belly and the Egg Fried Rice Noodles + Lardo!! Both on second photo Usually come for lunch on the weekends, as we’ve noticed service and food is slightly better when less busy based on multiple visits
Not quite as I’d hope… but I’ll give them another chance. Having moved to Manchester a few years ago, I have never had the chance to visit Smoking Goat. Now that I am back in East London, I thought that today Friday would be the day to make my way over. I arrived to meet a colleague for a late lunch at 2.15pm - I arrived early, and the place was busy but not full. Lunch service was winding down you could feel. As I waiting for a colleague and was early, I sat at the bar and was quickly served and expertly looked after by the bartender. It was Friday, so I enjoyed a nice glass of cider. When my colleague arrived, after a little confusion, a table was set up for us by the front windows of Shoreditch High Street and we headed over. We were given ample time to decide on food choices, though it took some time to get attention and my colleague had to go over to catch attention. We made our order promptly but it took some time for food to come out. I can be a bit uppity when service is slow and my colleague and I began looking around in that natural that can happen when you feel you’re waiting longer than you should. We enjoyed a snack item to start, choosing the Fried Chicken Skin. The chicken skin was lovely and milder than a similar dish at Speedboat, making it easier to enjoy. This was followed by Fried Chicken, and on this dish I have to agreed with my friend who was dining with me… the finest piece of fried chicken you have ever had! We then rounded this up with the Moo Hong Braised Belly 450g, Crispy Pig Bits Citrus Salad, and some Jasmine Rice. Let’s start with the easy bit. The rice was rice, cooked properly. Not much else to say. The Moo Hong Braised Belly was perfect cooked and the meat and fat balanced well to give a great sensation on the tongue. The Crispy Pig Bits Citrus Salad. Have you ever been punched in the throat by a beautiful Thai woman? No? Try the Crispy Pig Bits Citrus Salad. It’s beautiful but takes no prisoners. The food at Smoking Goat was good. The service was lacking. The team members were great. Polite and personable, but they were struggling with something, food took a little longer than I would expect, and we hardly saw the staff around us. I had similar food the day before at Speedboat, for a similar price per person. The staff were amazing. I remember their names, we had a laugh, they recommended dishes to try on the next visit. Here, it was okay but it kind of felt taken for granted that we would think it was great and come back again on a return visit. Now, believe me. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t as good as I would have hoped. It didn’t feel worth more than the, apparent slightly down market in comparison, Speedboat Bar. Maybe this was because they were on a wind down after a lunch service, with the shift change happening ahead of the dinner service? I don’t know, but I will give it another go.
I’ve eaten a lot of fried chicken in my life, but I’m pretty sure that the best fried chicken that I’ve had is here. What we ordered: - Fried chicken skin - Fish Sauce Chili Wing - Fried Egg Rice Noodles + Lardo - White Cabbage + Fish Sauce - Tomato + Broad Bean Som Tam - Rice These seem a lot but we were at a Hozier concert from 13:30 until 20:30 so we were famished. We got here at 21:30 and the orders arrived quite fast. The staff are very friendly.
A very enjoyable experience and great food! The restaurant itself is very trendy and nicely laid out, you have some bar stool seating and some table seating. Felt very comfortable and not rushed through out my meal. Great food selection on the menu, though be prepared quite a lot of spicy option and if you're not a big fan of spicy food you may have less to choose from. Saying that we went when it was doing a Thai fried chicken menu. Tasty good and great service, I was very happy with my experience overall.
Amazing food, really suits our Asian palate with a lot of layers of flavors. The game changer was the chicken wings with chili fish sauce, I’d say that was the biggest wing I’ve ever had lol beverages were also interesting esp the one that my sister got, the pineapple soda thing? as I ordered Thai tea as it has been a habit of mine whenever I went to Thai resto. Although we had a reservation, the previous tables were still there so we ended up sitting on the high chairs which was actually fine but I didn’t find it comfortable as my feet are short so.. it was hard to balance and enjoy the food at the same time. Service was good tho but I wish they could put us at our designated table instead. The restroom was also clean and comfortable to do your jobs lol keep up the good work
Pricey, but food was exceptional. Service fast, friendly and efficient. Was very busy on a Thursday night, but got a table with a short wait.
Disappointing Experience at Smoking Goat I had high hopes for Smoking Goat, especially given its connection to Kiln, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. The food was disappointing – overly spicy, greasy, and with odd flavor combinations that didn’t resonate with me. While I usually enjoy Thai cuisine, this felt like a misguided fusion attempt, with an overuse of nutty toppings that didn't enhance the dishes. The atmosphere was lively and youthful, which was a positive, but our experience was dampened by being seated at a poor table, which was frustrating. Service was adequate, though there were moments when our waiter seemed visibly annoyed, which detracted from the overall dining experience. In summary, I wouldn’t return to Smoking Goat. There are definitely better Thai restaurants in London.
