Hidden gem just off Oxford street, perfect for when you want a quick meal during your shopping trip! Still relatively unknown so there isn't crazy queuing like you do with new restaurant openings which is a bonus when you are feeling hungry and cold. Smack is opened by the same people behind Burger and Lobster, so you know that their lobster quality is guaranteed. The menu is very small with Lobster rolls, or steamed lobster, a couple of sides and steamed lobster to choose from. It has a takeout and sit in price. The Lobster rolls are served in warm toasted brioche bread with 4 different topping/sauces to choose from, all 4 are delicious ! It is filled with a good amount of lobster plus your selected sauces and salads. The Lobster Chowder is amazing, there are chucks of lobster and vegetables, I love dunking my brioche from the lobster roll in it, it is so satisfying in the winter. Their other side is the courgette fries, these are worth a try too! There's bottomless soft drinks if you do decide to order and a bar in the basement offering spacious casual seating.
This is the new concept from David Strauss and his team behind Goodman Restaurant Group and Burger & Lobster. It is a deli located in Mayfair with their USP of lobster rolls influenced by world cuisines; as well as as serving cold, ready prepared whole chick lobsters. Their lobster rolls were filled with lobster chunks, accompaniments and encased in warm, buttery brioche rolls with a crisp exterior but still fluffy, soft interiors - a marriage made in heaven! Our particular favourite of the rolls was the California as we loved the citrusy avocado mayo which was complemented by the white wine. Also, we enjoyed juicy chunks of chick lobster with a garlic mayo. Check out their world travelling range of signature lobster rolls when you visit! They will also be creating specials from time to time. The chowder was velvety with chunks of chick lobster, like a comforting hug in a bowl - perfect for these winter's evenings.
The definitive best Lobster sandwiches in London. They serve shredded Lobster in a brioche Bun with all the right dressings. You get to choose from around 5 different flavors which will be a mix of toppings and dressings. They also have a very good Lobster soup.
The food was ok. Rolls weren't terrible, but not really enough lobster in them to justify the price. Coming from the same owners as lobster & burger, the placed surprised me in an unpleasant way. It comes across as an uppity fast food place. You have to order the food as in a fast food restaurant, and then go to a bar downstairs to get the drinks, and come back upstairs to pick up your food. It's arranged like a cheap, poorly thought fast food place, with expensive decor and an expensive menu. The place was nearly empty on a friday at lunch time. Not surprised, I have to say. Next time I want lobster in London, I won't be heading this way.
£12 for a small roll with minimal lobster meat and little flavour. Would need two of them to fill an adult. Great interior and fun bar in the basement but way too pricey for the amount of food you get.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm a lobster lover. Burger & Lobster is one of my go-to restaurants and recommendations with every single person I've taken signing up as a crustacean convert once the giant silver tray has been cleared away. The Goodman brothers have done good. Building their empire hasn't been difficult: their steak restaurants are renowned, B&L is now Stateside and Beast, which serves king crab and steak, isn't exactly doing badly either. So what comes next? A 'fast food' deli eatery serving up moreish lobster rolls at £9 a pop, of course. After a couple of cocktails at Bourne & Hollingsworth, I was inexplicably craving lobster and nothing else would do. I pulled S in the direction of Oxford Street, promising him a good time, and headed straight for Smack Deli, a stone's throw away from Bond Street station. The format here is straightforward - choose from one of the four lobster rolls on offer, order at the counter, pay and receive your buzzer. When your lobster goodness is ready, collect it and dig in. Easy. We started with the Mexican smoked chipotle mayo, peppers, corn, jalapeno and white cabbage and the Seven Samurai Japanese mayo, Japanese cabbage, cucumber, pickled ginger and spring onions. Toasted brioche stuffed to the brim with the fillings, these are serious sandwich contenders. Perhaps a little bit light on the actual depth of flavours but it was definitely love at first bite. Still hungry, we shared the California lettuce, cucumber, tomato, avocado mayo with lime which they kindly split for us. Perhaps the freshest in terms of flavour, this one was my favourite but I think next time I might add a splash of tabasco. We ordered wine and moreish courgette fries on the side and polished everything off pretty sharpish. As a younger sister, I think Smack Deli is making some real headway in keeping up with the rest of the family. A small way to go yet but I will definitely be back. Four out of five.
Diabolical. 1 Lobster - £12 1 Courgette Fries - £3.6 1 Nespoli White 125ml - £4 The Lobster, still full of what appeared to be the animals' faeces, was tasteless and almost impossible to eat with plastic cutlery. The fries, entirely unremarkable. The wine was undrinkable. I think this was the nail polish/ turpentine blend. I cannot quite believe that I paid close to £20 for a lunch this poor. It was outrageously dire. The group I was with gave their sandwiches poor reviews, with the most positive stating that it was 'okay'. I feel that this place owes me a refund. Thanks for wasting my lunchtime. I wouldn't feed this to a dog! The review below by Jessica Li is obviously a bogus account from the management - trust me, steer clear of this car crash of a restaurant.
Nice decor. Food was ok, not worth the price though. Hardly any lobster all was cold, the bread was yummy - it over powered the rest of the food. I wont be going there again.
Great lobster rolls. Tried the California roll and the 'Happy ending'. Both were great with perfectly cooked lobster.
It's ok, the lobster is cooked perfectly but the rolls are a bit too funky. Great environment though.
