I stayed at this hotel for one night in one of the en-suite rooms. After I made the booking, I was concerned with so many negative reviews on google and was very apprehensive about my stay. But I was pleasantly surprised when I reached the hotel. The room was decent size, clean and well ventilated. The bed was comfortable and bedding was adequate. There is a desk, small smart TV and free wi-fi. No other facilities like kettle etc. Bath was clean. There was no towel or shower gel but I was carrying it with me so no issues on that end. The person at reception called me and confirmed my arrival time. They were at the reception when I reached and helped take my luggage to the room. The room has a card key access, with lock from inside, so felt secure. The parking at front is limited but I got a space for me. There are other streets nearby where its a free parking area. Overall, a pleasant stay for single traveller for one night. Only minor issue was that the water pressure in shower was low.
Stayed here at the weekend and the owner is the hotel owner version of a shady landlord. Firstly if you're early, you're paying £10 per hour you're early despite the room being ready. Next, you're paying £25 bank transfer PER PERSON deposit. Expect to never see this money again. Checkout is at 10am, I guarantee there will be nobody on the desk. We had to leave our room key card on the reception desk after 20 minutes of waiting. another group was also waiting and had been for some time they had paid their deposit in cash. Owner phoned, "checked cameras" which is obviously untrue, and I didn't leave the key card. Just a way to scam people of deposit money. Ultimately I will say the room was clean and the beds were comfy, the shower is literally unusable but this place is fine for a night, provided you don't mind paying £25 extra per person, because you will never see that money again. AVOID and book somewhere less dodgy.
We visited Newcastle overnight for an event. Easy to find and close to the city center. Smooth check in process. Getting to the room, it was spotlessly clean. Beds very comfortable with plenty of pillows. Bathroom was also perfectly clean and looked to be fairly new. Toiletries and tea/coffee were a nice touch that you don't usually get in budget accommodation. The listing says the walls are soundproof - they are not, but we only heard other people a couple of times and it wasn't disruptive. We opted for the cooked breakfast which was great. It was delivered to our room right on time and piping hot and was a very welcome start to the day. In all, I would recommend it to others looking for somewhere for a short, cheap, no-frills stay. The only things that were missing from the room didn't affect our stay, they would have just been nice to have - a shelf or similar next to the beds, a lamp in the room, somewhere to hang clothes - and would not deter us from staying again
!!DO NOT STAY HERE!! Me and my 4 friends stayed here last Friday night. We were charged twice for the same room as we came back to the hostel at in two groups at two separate times. I have since phoned the establishment to try and resolve this- after about 30 unanswered calls, they rang me back and said there was nothing they could do. Pathetic. I wonder how many other people they have scammed? Shocking, especially in a cost of living crisis.
The staff are friendly enough and the general aura is OK. The room was basic and simple but the parking was poor. The noise of partying revellers arriving at 3am with disgusting language was very disappointing. This is not the fault of the staff of course. Would recommend for a young group or a one night stop to 'put the head on the pillow'. Additionally, where is my deposit that has not been refunded yet, please advise me what sort of policy you have on this mistreatment as we returned the room in acceptable condition.
Upon arriving I was a bit concerned of the area, but I had nothing to worry about at all see below. The hostel will catch your eye, it's bright and welcoming from the outside, it's very modern inside. The staff were really informative and helpful, they do take a deposit but it is refunded when you leave. The room I stayed in had 3 bunk beds with 6 beds and a shower bathroom, there was a common room with a tv and kitchenette. Outside there were 3 takeaways and it was a <10m walk to Discovery Museum/St James'/Eldon Sq. I booked very last minute, and upon arrival the room was ready for me. Elswick has had a bad rep but it really looks as if it is being regenerated, and you can see it by the new fire station and school opposite this hotel. Even the shop lots round the corner are being turned into vintage and antique stores. The night I stayed there were road works and I had to leave my car further away on the housing block, but it was still there in the morning. This place really is actually fine, that being said - this is in a major city - if people have common sense they won't be walking home at 2am in any major city. This hostel is nice and I would stay here again.
Arrived hotel to be told needed to pay £25 deposit person person via BANK TRANSFER, was 13 of us so paid £325, next day my friend got locked in the bathroom as the lock broke and had to come get help to get him out, in morning I made sure the rooms were cleaned and left how they were found, no one used to the shower, found out not getting £325 back as one key card wasnr handed in and the shower holder was wobbly, rhat we DID not touch and claimed it was gonna cost them £500 to fix DO NOT BOOK
We used this over a stag do and it was amazing. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the rooms are clean and functional, and its close enough to the train station and city centre. Id highly recommend this place!!!
Receptionist was a weapon. He clearly has an attitude problem and should seriously consider a change in career for the sake of other unsuspecting visitors. Communal areas are dirty. Random cycling machines in the middle of corridor. Cracked windows in the room. Neighbours shouting at each other. Avoid at all costs.Rooms: 2/5
Beware that the price displayed may not be accurate. On arrival, I was told an additional £20 was required for security reasons. I suspect this is in case the room was damaged. This was not mentioned at the time of booking. On departure, the room was checked before a card refund was issued. However the "refund" didn't appear until after I complained to management. So the price is £20 per person more than quoted. You may be refunded at the discretion of the manager.
