Great venue to host parties and have live bands, with places to view the stage upstairs as well as in front of the stage, which is a good size for bands to play on. The staff at the bar were really kind. The toilets were a bit scruffy and the lock on the male cubicle didn’t work, but other than that I can’t fault it!

Decent venue, although expensive and staff aren't always friendly

I like this little place but they do have some bizarre rules. It's Friday night the 4th of August. A cover band of the Bee Gees are playing. Barry, Robin and Morris with his familiar trilby hat. In fact similar to mine made By the Stetson company USA. My group of friends are all aged above 50 years of age and we are all local in and to Wantage. It was a great night and lots of fun. We all dressed very smartly but casually as one does. Saturday , the next day was a very different story. I would not be allowed to wear one of my many hats which I have worn for many years now. I feel at 65 years of age I'm not to keen on being told that what i was wearing was a security risk or hazzard. If the Shush staff are not given the flexibility to pick out who may be a terrorist or a problem by observing that I was a white indigenous male wearing smart western clothes with no beard, prayer mat or any other religious paraphernalia so unlikely to be a threat to anyone. ( I only say this as terrorism is carried out under the guise of the Islamic faith) I was told it is a different crowd on Saturday night? I could see that. they were livley but not a problem but I was the same person i was Friday night wearing again, a Stetson hat, shirt, waist coat, Jacket, smart Jeans and black shoes. Anyway I said goodbye to my friends and left. Are females allowed to wear hats, can you wear a hibab or head scarf or turban? Apart from not being allowed in because I wear a hat, I like the place :-) Ken Johnson, disappointed

I can't believe the reviews i have read on here. As a local i think there is nothing but good things that Shush has brought to the town. It is busy every weekend, 2 years on from opening, which clearly states this venue was needed in the town. Everyone forgets what the bouncers are there for...they are there to protect those who want to have a good night without the drama of people being too drunk or fighting or creating an unpleasant environment. The bouncers are there just doing their jobs and they are sober and have to make a decision, whether people think it right or wrong, in a split second. Great Venue to have in Wantage and a great time will be had if you decide to go there, which you should. The staff are very friendly and very welcoming and the prices aren't bad. They do many tribute nights throughout the year and also have comedy and curry nights quite regularly. Highly recommended!
